Remember when you would view the trophies in Smash Bros., and read a small tidbit of information on what that particular character/item/thing from a game did? When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released in 2018 with the Spirits replacing trophies, they notably lacked that small charming description that was once included.

I have taken the personal project of writing descriptions for each and every Spirit included in Ultimate (yes, even the Fish from Balloon Fight will get a description).

So, how's this going to work? I am going in order from Mario (number 1) to Wonder Flower and Talking Flower (number 1,528), posting in batches of ten each. This may be a big undertaking. but I am prepared to write them all as apart of a bigger writing practice. Feedback and comments are appreciated here! I would love to know what you think about these little blurbs of information.

Spirit List:
#1-#10 (Mario to Bowser Jr.)
#11-#20 (Iggy to Super Star)
#21-#30 (Metal Mario to Bowser (Wedding))

#1 Mario

One of the most recognizable characters in video game history, Mario has been on many adventures and collected tons of coins and power-ups. In Smash Bros., Mario is a versatile fighter, well-rounded for any match. While his special moves haven't changed since the days of Brawl, Mario is joined by Cappy, his latest partner that traveled the world while on his head.

#2 Builder Mario

In Super Mario Maker, players can create their own Mario courses and share them with the world to play. Mario fittingly dons a construction outfit in promotional material, hard hat and all. Whether it be a standard course or a course that's a bit outside the box, you can always ensure that the creativity is abound when Mario is around!

#3 Mario (Wedding)

Mario is certainly looking dapper in this white tuxedo outfit crafted by Cappy. He's not the one leading Peach down the aisle, but Bowser is sure going to have quite an objection to his wedding to her on the Moon. This fancy suit is Mario's eighth color in Ultimate, alongside his Builder get-up as the seventh color.

#4 Luigi

Mario's taller, younger brother, he's a bit timid when it comes to subjects like ghosts. Luigi nonetheless helps rescue Princess Peach and save the Mushroom Kingdom alongside Mario. Occasionally, he'll wield the Poltergust and investigate a mansion with help from Professor E. Gadd, but this leads to getting spooked by g-g-ghosts… and has drawn the ire of King Boo.

#5 Peach

The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom who's more than likely getting captured by Bowser at any given time. Despite the status as damsel-in-distress, Peach has proved that she can hold her own when her kingdom is threatened. She's also quite proficient at kart racing and other sports, such as tennis or golf.

#6 Daisy

"HI, I'm Daisy!" This peppy princess from the neighboring kingdom of Sarasaland will make sure you remember her name is Daisy. Participating in several competitive sports, Daisy is no slouch when it comes to hitting a home run or getting a goal in Mario Strikers. While Peach may have her eye on Mario, Daisy's got a bit of a crush on Luigi.
#7 Bowser
The King of the Koopas and commander of the Koopa Troop. Causing mischief and chaos in the Mushroom Kingdom is just in his nature. Oftentimes, he's got his heart set on Peach, but his plans are foiled and the princess is rescued by that goody two-shoes Mario. He takes a more realistic look in Smash Bros. to go along with his powerful moves and snarling demeanor.

#8 Dr. Mario

While we can't quite figure out how this plumber became a doctor, what we do know is that Dr. Mario lobs Megavitamins at viruses and at opponents, Sharing some of regular Mario's moveset, Dr. Mario is more powerful than the Mario we're used to. Who needs a defibrillator when you have your side Smash Attack?

#9 Rosalina

Rosalina travels the cosmos and acts as a caretaker of the Lumas. Mario first met her when Bowser took Peach (and her entire castle as well) towards the center of the universe to establish his new galactic empire. Kind and soft-spoken, Rosalina also has a bit of a fun side to her, joining Mario and friends in Mario Kart and recently in Mario Party.

#10 Bowser Jr.

Like father, like son, Bowser Jr. is the heir to the Koopa Kingdom's throne and the only child of Bowser. His Junior Clown Car has all sorts of gizmos and gadgets to turn the match in his favor, including Mechakoopas, sawblades, boxing gloves, and… a fork? In any case, he does look cute for such a tiny tyrant.

#11 Iggy

Iggy is the crazed genius of the Koopalings and the tallest if you count his hair stalk. Laughing madly as he battles, firing magic from his wand, and running back and forth between the floor and the ceiling make this Koopaling a mystery in his behaviors. A Chain Chomp is a common occurrence in his fights, where he has it attached to a chariot in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

#12 Wendy

Being the only female Koopaling, you'd expect Wendy to be concerned with her makeup and jewelry rather than taking on Mario, but she's just like her siblings. Wendy fires magic rings from her wand that bounce off of walls in contrast to the other Koopalings' attacks, In New Super Mario Bros. U, she's the boss of Frosted Glacier and shows off her deadly figure skating skills during battle.

#13 Lemmy

The smallest of the Koopalings, Lemmy is often mistaken to be the youngest of the group, but that distinction goes to Larry. It's easy to see why that misconception gained traction, what with Lemmy's circus ball that he enjoys rolling around on, and summoning smaller versions of them to bounce Mario around during a battle. Underestimating this little guy is one mistake you don't want to make.

#14 Roy (Super Mario Bros.)

They say sunglasses make you look cooler, of which Roy is the perfect example. Preferring strength over smarts, Roy stomps around creating shockwaves that stop Mario in his tracks. Roy also carries a giant, twin-sided Bill Blaster as the boss of Rock-Candy Mines. Perhaps all that strength carries over into firepower!

#15 Larry

If the Koopalings appear as bosses in an adventure, there's a pretty high chance that Larry will be the easiest to defeat. Larry might not have the strength of Morton or Roy, nor does he have the cunning of Ludwig or craziness of Iggy, but he provides a challenge through being traditional; just firing a blast or two from his wand and jumping around.

#16 Ludwig

The self-proclaimed leader of the Koopalings and the last one to be defeated most of the time. Ludwig is cunning and conceited, making showy moves in battle and planning his next course of action carefully. When Ludwig isn't battling Mario, he composes "Koopa Symphonies" and has a fondness for classical music. Whether these compositions sound good is up to a matter of debate.

#17 Morton

Whereas Roy is more brawn than brains, Morton is all brawn and no brains. The very definition of "dumb muscle", Morton isn't very smart and speaks like a caveman. However, this doesn't mean he's above helping to protect his fellow Koopalings when the need arises. Say what you will about Morton, but there may be a somewhat kind heart underneath that tough and gruff exterior.

#18 Super Mushroom

The first power-up you encounter in Super Mario Bros. is the Super Mushroom, which grants you the Super form. Breaking Brick Blocks and allowing you to bump into a Goomba without losing a life is just the start of what this Mushroom can do. Just don't confuse it for the Poison Mushroom, though.

#19 Fire Flower

In the Mario series, grabbing this power-up lets you throw fireballs, turning enemies you'd normally have to stomp into cannon fodder. While it can't produce fireballs in Smash Bros., it instead streams a burst of fire when the attack button is held. For an up close and personal item, the Fire Flower fits the bill.

#20 Super Star

One touch of this shiny power-up makes you invincible for a short while, with even the strongest of enemies falling without any effort. Multiple colors flash all over, creating a rainbow effect as you run full speed ahead! If you want, you can hum the theme to this power-up as you go. You can even share the invincibility with other players in Super Mario 3D World, but make sure it doesn't run out when you get into a sticky situation.

#21 Metal Mario

In Super Mario 64, Mario could obtain the Metal Cap, which coated him in metal, making him heavier and more resistant to threats. However, this form may have grown a mind of its own, as it appears as a racer in the Mario Kart series and various sports titles. It also showed up in Smash Bros. as an opponent. If there can be two Marios in the same place at the same time, which Mario came first…?

#22 Boo Mario

Touching the Boo Mushroom turns Mario into a Boo, allowing him to float through walls, turn invisible, and even speak a language known as Booish. He uses it to rescue his little brother, Luigi, from the horrifying halls of the Ghostly Galaxy. There is one tiny problem that arises when it comes to this transformation: Boos become smitten with Mario!

#23 Rock Mario

Out of all the power-ups Mario has obtained over the years, the Rock Mushroom is pretty weird for a concept. It encases him in a boulder and lets him roll around smashing crystals and striking down Pinheads with relative ease. In Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser used a form like this during the final battle, it's in the realm of possibility that Mario took some notes for future reference.

#24 Gold Mario

Coins are a well known staple of the Mario series. Gold Mario is the epitome of that fact, being covered in, well, gold! This form allows Mario to throw explosive balls of fiery gold in New Super Mario Bros. 2, where the main focus is collecting a whole lot of coins. It also appears as a racer in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a reward for beating all of the cups on 200cc. "Bang for your buck" is an appropriate phrase here.

#25 Fox Luigi

We all know Luigi to be the one to turn tail, but what if he grew a tail himself? The Super Leaf changes Mario into his Raccoon form, but Luigi gets a special Fox version of it. He can still do all the same moves that the Super Leaf grants, swiping down enemies with his tail and hovering in the air for a short period, just with a fox's tail instead of a raccoon's.

#26 Flying Squirrel Toad

In the heart of Acorn Plains is the enormous Acorn Tree that provides Super Acorns. Obtaining one grants the Flying Squirrel form, which allows Mario and his friends to glide through the air and Spin Jump higher than normal. Using these two attributes of the Flying Squirrel form can help collect even the toughest Star Coins and access hidden areas you couldn't fathom reaching without it.

#27 Baby Peach

One of the seven Star Children, Peach tags along with the Yoshies to rescue Luigi from Bowser in Yoshi's Island DS. She uses her parasol to float along wind gusts and help a Yoshi extend their flutter jumps. In Mario Kart, the young princess is a lightweight and reaches her top speed quicker. Even as a baby, Peach can prove herself on par with her adult counterpart.

#28 Cat Princess Peach

The Super Bell is really the cat's meow. Climbing up walls, pouncing down in the air, running quicker, this power-up isn't kitten around. Fur-get the Tanooki Suit and Fire Flower, sharp claws and furry paws are where it's at. We wouldn't lion to you and say that Peach isn't feline fine while wearing the Cat Suit!

#29 Peach (Wedding)

Peach and Bowser go together like nails and tomatoes. He still wants to marry her and claim the Mushroom Kingdom as his own, though. For a wedding dress, Peach has the Lake Kingdom's Lochlady Dress, with flowers taken from the Wooded Kingdom and the scrumptious Stupendous Stew from the Luncheon Kingdom as the wedding dinner; Bowser has spared no expense in making sure that his wedding is perfect even if Mario's hot on his tail.

#30 Bowser (Wedding)

For Bowser, power is all he desires. How he gets it varies from time to time, with his wedding to Princess Peach being his latest attempt. A giant hat rests atop Bowser's head, which packs a few hidden surprises. When Mario takes him on in the Cloud Kingdom, Bowser pulls a few punches, quite literally, with his hat. Unfortunately, the Koopa king makes the mistake of leaving himself open if Mario happens to turn the tables on him…
