Isn't making a Paper Mario game in 3D somewhat Ironic?

Yeah, but remember that Paper Mario takes place in 3D environments. Only the characters are 2D. The only exception is Super Paper Mario, but that's a totally different game.

Mr. Game & Watch is also a 2D character, but that didn't stop him from being in Melee or Brawl.

That could be a good gameplay idea. You tilt the screen and Mario can walk to a different piece of paper.

They should make it more story book-like, kindof like yoshi's island. With the water color or crayon backgrouds. One of mario's attacks could be to turn the page and it turn the enemys around so you can do back attack against the enemies(FFVII).
