Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets (Somewhat confirmed?)

SonicMario

Star Spirit
EDIT: Before you judge, I made this thread in a time SSB4 was not confirmed. So just a warning with some of my talk here. The 15th post is an update on this thread as I will no longer be updating characters like I said here

Hey everyone, I just thought of cool dream thing if another Smash game: Interchangable B Movesets

You may be asking what I mean by that but anyway I'll explain it. For the purpose of this being the Mario Wiki and needing a character that has not had his moveset changed in all 3 of the games. Let's pull out good ol' Luigi here

In both Melee and Brawl of course, Luigi has the Fireball, Green Missile, Tornado Spin, and the Coin Jump.
Now to tell you what the interchangable movesets think of 4 other moves for Luigi that are possible for special moves. Like maybe another B down for a Vaccum from Luigi's Mansion (Would be the opposite of Mario's FLUDD, bringing your foes to you for A combos), a new B side could be a ice throw (When Ice Luigi or Penguins Suit in NSMB Wii), his 2nd neutral B move being Thunderhand from M&L SuperStar saga, and the 2nd B up being the Power Squat from SMB2 (Both Mario and Peach could also have this)

The goal of the moveset is to give more choice to the player. And some characters may have a new move that made a projectile reliant character into a physical machine or a fighter that could need the desperate need of a side-projectile. Anyway let's check on if this thing were implemented and you were choosing Luigi's Moveset would be

LUIGI

B Special Attack
FIREBALL (Type: Short Range Projectile)
THUNDERHAND (Type: Close-range Physical)

B Up
SUPER JUMP PUNCH (Close-range Physical)
POWER SQUAT JUMP (Close-range Physical)

B Side
GREEN MISSILE (Long-Range Physical)
ICE THROW (Short Range Projectile)

B Down
LUIGI CYCLONE (Short Range Physical)
POLTURGUST 5000 (Long Range Special)

By the way it's set up the attacks now have types toward them. The following types here are:
Close-range Physical (EX: Falcon Punch)
Long-range Physical (EX: Pikachu's Skull Bash)
Close-range Projectile (EX: Mario/Luigi's Fireballs)
Long-range Projectile (EX: Samus's Missile)
Long-range Special* (EX: Mario's FLUDD)
Close-range Special (EX: ???)

*Special means as in a attack that has an effect that's neither Physical nor a projectile. Mario's FLUDD and the Polturgust would be under this category because while technially the FLUDD is a projectile shooting water it's only purpose is to push it, and it doesn't damage. Luigi's Polturgust would similarily do no damage but move the foe closer to Luigi instead.

Now with all these choices you get to decide which one you'd like most. Maybe you prefer his Brawl and Melee Moveset so you stick it with way, maybe you want to experiment by only adding one or 2 of the new attacks to Luigi's moveset. Or maybe you wanna go all-out and try out how the new moveset would work out if you replaced all the old moves with these. Whatever you do you can't have all 8 of these attacks at once so you must pick 4 out of the 8. If your not satisfied with how a moveset worked with those changes simply try a different combination to see if you can find the perfect B moveset that can turn your Luigi into a killing machine. And if your completely unsatisfied with anything it gives new, you can just move it back to how Brawl and Melee had his moveset.

Now Luigi was just the example. I want to know what other characters could also have alternate B moves to use. Think of the possiblities if each of the Brawl characters had 8 moves to choose from each character would have a stunning mathematical technicality 32 different moveset combinations to try.

Who would say this isn't awesome? Especially if there are any new characters then there'd be a whole new 8 moves to try. Awesome ay? This would be a great way to encorparate more attacks from the game without having to remove any old moves from the past games. So how about it? I know it probably won't happen but we can all dream of the possibilities

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

That's awesome!
Nice stuff for luigi

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

If you guys want maybe I can do a daily (No promises on daily actually...) character-by-character go through for 8 attacks. Though I'll need help with some franchises I'm not familiar with (Fire Emblem for example) if I get to a certain character

EDIT: Once I do all Brawl Characters I'll move on to hopefuls (Or maybe those who from Melee that got removed in Brawl before that) and so on. You guys can also make your own 8-attack rosters for hopefuls, if your making one for a already existing character only add 4 more moves. Maybe when I get to that character one or all of your moves could be very useful

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

Alright, we can begin with Mario here. Now Mario's will actually depend on what you prefer. As we know in between Melee and Brawl the Mario Tornado move was switched for FLUDD in Brawl. The only thing it replaced effectively was Mario's A down in Melee and 64 because the Mario Tornado was made an A move. So it's up to you if you'd want the Mario tornado back as the alternate effectively only adding 3 more moves to Mario's moveset instead of 4.

B Special Attack
FIREBALL (Close-range Projectile)
FIREBRAND (Close-range Physical)

B Up
SUPER JUMP PUNCH (Close-range Physical)
POWER SQUAT JUMP (Close-range Physical)

B Side
CAPE (Close-range Special)
STAR SPIN (Close-range Physical)

B Down
FLUDD (Long-range Special)
MARIO TORNADO (Close-range Physical) or GROUND POUND (Close-range Physical)

This may look like it's too similar to Luigi's but Luigi's moveset has never been too far astray from Mario's. And for the similar moves of course the way they work will be different. And while Yoshi and Bowser have Ground Pounds Mario's will have a balanced one that is slower then Yoshi's but more powerful along with being faster then Bowser's but weaker

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

I know this is early and this is a double post but I just wanted to get Link's out of the way
Link's moveset is based on the upcoming game Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. Of course all his original moves from the past 4 games will be the ones he had along but the 4 new ones are all related to Skyward Sword except for the Bomb Jump which I made on my own

B Special Attack
BOW (Long-range Projectile)
SWORD BEAM (Close-range Projectile)

B Up
SPIN ATTACK (Close-range Physical)
BOMB JUMP* (Close-range Projectile)

B Side
BOOMERANG (Long-range Projectile)
WHIP (Close-range Physical)

B Down
BOMB (Long-range Projectile)
BEETLE** (Long-range Special)

*This move isn't as effective as Spin Attack for recovering but it can help link go straight up, the downside however besides the fact that it isn't the best recovery move at all is that it damages Link. This move can also be used to drop bombs onto your foe
**Beetle would be able to retrieve far away items. Only useful for large stages with items on because while you control the beetle to retrieve the item Link is vulnerable to attack. Luckily the beetle is swift so someone who could really need it in a pinch can use it to their advantage

When I get to Toon Link the original 4 moves will still be cloned moves but the new 4 moves will be based on Wind Waker and not on Skyward Sword thus separating their movesets much more effectively

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

This one was harder to make then it looks. And I'm not sure I'm overly satisfied with my choices for Kirby but here's the Puffball's new moves

B Special Attack
INHALE (Close-range Special)
YARN WHIP (Close-range Physical)

B Up
CUTTER (Close-range Projectile)
JET (Long-range Special)

B Side
HAMMER (Close-range Physical)
FIGHTER (Close-range Physical)

B Down
STONE (Close-range Physical)
TORNADO (Close-range Physical)

Honestly if you have better ideas go ahead and tell me. Maybe I'll edit this post if I like yours better then mine (Don't think I'll have an ego about my choices, some of my new ones here I think aren't that well thought out). Also I have Pikachu and Fox already set for when it's their day. However I'm having a bit of trouble with Samus and Zelda (THat includes ZSS and Sheik as well). I would appreciate the help

EDIT: Thanks for the better choices Gamefreak

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

Up+B can be JET.

Down+B can be TORNADO.

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

Alright time for Pikachu. For Pokemon I'll always look up moves that they can actually learn in the games. so here's good ol' Pikachu's,

B Special Attack
THUNDERSHOCK (Long-range Projectile)
THUNDER WAVE (Close-range Special)

QUICK ATTACK (Long-range Physical)
DOUBLE-EDGE* (Long-range Physical)

SKULL BASH (Long-range Physical)
IRON TAIL (Close-range Physical)

THUNDER (Close-range Projectile)
LEER** (Close-range Special)

*Acts similar to Sonic's Homing Attack
**Makes Shields useless temporarily

Still need dire help with Samus/ZSS and Zelda/Sheik please help.

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

Sorry I haven't done much. I've been busy with other things, if you frequent Userpedia you'll know why.

Anyway to make up for it I'll put down multiple characters here. Also I decided to screw the ones I can't think up immediately and save some for when I have enough ideas for them or for the end. Here's 5 of them: Fox, Bowser, Yoshi, DK, and Peach

***Acts similar to Kirby's Stone move

Also I might not be doing more besides the ones I did not do by now unless you guys which are fans of those franchises to educate me on it. I just don't have enough knowledge of the other franchises or have Sakurai's imagination with how he did stuff like Captain Falcon's moves and such. I'm willing to let everyone else think if their favorite characters had interchangable special movesets with a limit of 2 moves per special move with only 4 of the 8 that can be used for battle. Also again you can also think of 8 moves for hypothetical newcomers. While Veterans get only 4 moves, the Newcomers would be the lucky ones to get 8 moves for themselves to choose from
If you have any issue with the ones I have now, I tried my best to study upon actual game moves for each of the characters I did. I also tried to think of ways how stuff can be balanced such as some of my talk in the * notes but some of you may still see some of them as overpowered which could be true with some of the new moves are combined with one of the older ones but remember that a new move replaces an old move if used until a player wants to change it back.

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

How will you be able to activate the second B attack? There has to be a way.

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

Baby Luigi said:

It would work like this, select your character a button will show saying something like "Attack Options" when you get to the option screen it would show 4 moves on with Up, Standard, Down, and Sideways. The default would be the exact special moveset they had in Brawl (This is assuming the character you pick is a Veteran) and if you select one either Up Standard Down or Sideways. Let me use Luigi as an example

DEFAULT
UP
Super Jump Punch

SIDEWAYS STANDARD
Green Missile Fireball

DOWN
Luigi Cyclone

Say that you wanted to switch Luigi Cyclone to the Polturgust. Simply highlight the Down attack section and press A or the equivalent of it to get a smaller menu that looks like this

DOWN
Luigi Cyclone / Polturgust 5000

You simply choose Polturgust 5000 and then that option will show up instead of Luigi Cyclone. Thus looking like this now

UP
Super Jump Punch

SIDEWAYS STANDARD
Green Missile Fireball

DOWN
Polturgust 5000

If you wanted to switch them all to new attacks you do the same with the others and it will look like this:

UP
Power Squat Jump

SIDEWAYS STANDARD
Ice Throw Thunderhand

DOWN
Polturgust 5000

You can do any combination of old and new attacks except for ones that are in the same column. It goes without saying you can't have more then one of each type of Special Attack for the Smash series. It'd overcomplicate things. But an option like this allows more variety and brings an experience that is new for even characters that have been in the Smash series since the beginning. It gives more of a reason to try out all characters to try out all the combinations and how they'd work against other characters with their own different combinations. Providing TONS of replay value

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

Mario's Up B should be the Rocket FLUDD, like the one that propels him up while his Down B should be Ground Pound, perhaps?

I have an "or Ground Pound" for Mario if Nintendo decided to keep Mario Tornado as the A Down move already. And as for the Rocket FlLUDD I suppose it could work, perhaps even better then the Power Squat Jump. Rocket FLUDD would probably be a much better vertical recovery though the funny thing is, with Rocket FLUDD Mario and Sonic would have a similar move at least for a new attack (Sonic has the Rocket wisp for an alternate recovery).

Oh I think your mistaking the Rocket for the Hover Nozzle. The Hover Nozzle could work well, less stiff then ROB's recovery. It's a nice idea.

Re: Idea for SSB4 - Interchangable B Movesets

I get frequently mixed up. When I think of Rocket, I think of something going up. -_-

I want Mario's vB to be both the Tornado and the Ground Pound.

Holy shit, while I'm sure it's not exactly what I asked for. But changing the special moves seems have become a thing with the Custom Movesets.

So I can say I at least somewhat called it 4 years back :D
