    Paper Mario TTYD is a dark game because it has a noose in it. The noose is never used and no one ever acknowledges it but it's there so it's dark.

    Now see I could potentially get invested in said emotional conflicts if they weren't the dollar store variety version of em. Especially since their way of dealing with these conflicts is like "oh hey here's a letter" or "hey I'mma forgive you because we need an epilogue." And thats not even getting into how tonally it doesn't mesh well with the rest of the franchise.
    I still like the game but it's about as dark as a spooky story you tell a little kid.

    Despite the dark elements present in TTYD, the game itself didn't feel "dark" for the most part. Probably a bit more "dark" than the first game, but the overall tone still feels light/amusing.

    I agree, I wish I could refuse but having the original Paper Mario on Switch means too much to me. I'm absolutely appalled at that price though, I wish more than anything the Virtual Console model would come back so I could make a one time payment for each game I want to have on the Switch, no strings attached.
