    i feel like being hostile towards transphobes isn't the way to go about supporting lgbtq
    it's like shitting on someone for taking drugs, in most cases they're a perfectly fine person otherwise
    with transphobes it's normally just ingrained traditional values- it's hard to adjust to something that was taboo only a couple of decades ago!

    No, transphobes don't deserve any respect or tolerance, they aren't perfectly fine people, and they aren't equitable to drug addiction. It's like calling racism "ingrained traditional values".

    How to not to be a transphobe is to respect pronouns and don't spout any nonsense regarding "biology" and to read up research on transgenders participating in women's sports before you say anything about it.

    I'd also clarify that I don't have any issues with people asking questions about transgenderism or even making naive surface level observations that can easily be explained (such as explaining nonbinary folks or the history behind transgenderism). That's part of the learning process, and something I don't consider transphobic. What I'm not okay with is malicious intent, like asserting someone is a "biological man/woman" (a phrase not used in science and is used primarily by ignorant bigots online who think attaching the word "biological" makes them learned on the subject), thinking kids are too young to learn about LGBT+ identities (I learned very bizarre shit when I was a kid such as a time a scientist agreed to get decapitated so they can study brain death, LGBT+ is extremely tame compared to other fucked up stuff I read at that age) or disrespecting gender transitioning. Sports in general is a tricky subject to handle and you need to do some reading up about it before you make remarks about fairness.
