Super Mario 3D Land

I don't know how many I have. I don't bother with them and I'm only on World 3.

You should bother with them. You need them to access certain levels.

The castle in World 5 requires 50.

Don't say anything that's not worth saying.

Just because PTR doesn't have hundreds of Star Medals doesn't mean that the current total is not worth saying. This thread concerns discussion of the game and is not primarily designed for users to brag about their accomplishments. Remember, some people (including myself) are just recently getting their hands on it, and some aren't trying to collect Star Medals to the extent that others are.

Has anyone found a fun and amusing Special World level?
I liked the early ones.

Anyone else think the levels should have been themed? Like World 1 is grasslands. I also think there should have been more ghost houses and water/island-themed levels.
Yeah!! I loved the Ghost House and Island music!!

By the way, do the golden flags mean you got to the very top of the flag?

I think so cause when you do that the flag turns gold.

Island music ROCKED! And the ghost house music is "Waltz of the Boos" from Super Mario Galaxy. Or thats what my soundtrack says.

I don't know about you guys, but I think the final Bowser fight in world 8 is one of the best in the series, up there with NSMBWii's. I ended up playing through the castle four times just so I could get the Golden Flag at the end, but I had a blast each time. It was incredibly nerve-racking once I got to the second half of the fight, and the final sprint across the bridge was just epic (partially because we saw a variant of it in E3 2010's 3DS teaser video).

I have all the star coins in Worlds 1-4, but I still need to get some golden flags.

Tanooki Suit helps with that.

Anyway, I've recently played through World 1 as Luigi. I think what I will do is play through the rest of the main game as Luigi to get it out of the way, then I will pick up with Mario in the Special Worlds before going through as Luigi.

Well I beat it and I can't say its anything that special. Just your typical 2D Mario but with a third dimension.

I liked it, but really its nothing that new to me.

You mean like themed worlds? Like World 2 is a desert or World 3 is located by the sea.
Nah, I like having the levels vary more.
And yes, I agree that there should have been at least a little bit more ghost houses and water levels.
