Yes you do. If you just load the game as normal, nothing you modified will be seen.

Well, I found them to be fairly confusing at first, but if you just follow the steps in the websites I give, (which are fairly straightforward, IMO), then everything should go fine.

You just need the File Patch code, which you can find here. But, do you have a code manager to place the codes?

First, you need Homebrew, which you get by using BootMii. This is important!

My sister did most of the hacking process. I'll ask her in person so she can answer your questions. The reason I didn't do this earlier is that my sister was out for one day.

It's not going to delete your data or anything like that. >_< It will just modify your Wii, that's it. You remove the SD card, your Wii is normal. You use Homebrew Channel to load games, it's modified. That's it.

Homebrew has nothing to do with saved game data and virtual console games.

You're supposed to make a folder called "Codes" in the root of the SD card (file path X://). Then install Cheat Code Manager (since it's a program, you don't need to install it in your SD card). In your SD card, make a folder called TXTCODES. You can make a TXT file by using Notepad. This is what it should look like in the TXT file:

RSBE01 (this is the filename of the game)
Barlw (Whatever you want to call it. I named ours Barlw)

File Patch Code (put the title of the code here. You can call it whatever you want)
(Put code here)

(^Leave space for next code^|Code Name)
(put code here)

Next, open up Cheat Code Manager and open the TXT file you saved. Check the codes you want to activate and click Store as GCT file. Store the GCT file in the Codes folder you created.

Now, you need Gecko1931. Install it and place it in the apps folder. If you downloaded the right files, you should get X://apps/Gecko1931 and in that folder should be a boot.dol, icon (optional, but it's prettier), and meta.xml

Instead of loading Brawl through the normal disc channel, load it through Homebrew and use Gecko to launch the game.

I use SD card for custom stages for Brawl

You just rename "private" to "private old" and download Stack Smash data into the new "private" you created. After you've done the process, you may rename "private old" to "private" again and you shall have the stages.

Why? Nothing's going to corrupt your data. I understand if you have an SDHD card since it won't work, or so I heard.
