It's not the first word that comes to mind. It's not exactly commonplace, but yeah, it's not as rare as something like imbecile.

Actually, there's no textbook on schools that include any insulting words, just softer words, like "idiot", or "fool".
Words like "god damn it" and "fuck" have been learned through select TV programs, and kids on schools these days.

Half of Poland uses "Kurwa" that often, it makes you think there's no other insult known.
And the funniest about that is, "Kurwa" isn't even an insult, and there are a lot more words, which at least are insults.
