nothing decent about mario rpg stories.

smrpg was just GET THE STARS, BEAT SMITHEY

pm story was actually similar to smrpg(replace bowser with smithey)
pm2 was generic demon resurrection
m&l 1 and 2 stories were just dumb(GRANT WISH FOR EVIL WIZARD AND ATTACK OF ALIENS) dunno about 3.

spm would be if it didn't have crappy romance influence.

Mario and Luigi 1 & 2 are fine, I like them. They have lots of good moments.

IMO the best RPGs are:

All the M&L (1, 2 and 3) and SPM.
Super Paper Mario is my fave Mario game over all. :)

What about Paper Mario:The Thousand Year Door?
 
I will admit that the RPG stories aren't too bad, but compared to Fire Emblem...lacking.

Partners in Time could have done so much more with the Shroob invasion. They were great characters.
 
The only paper mario game I've played was paper mario and the thousand year door, and I thought it was wierd, but good wierd. Anyway, I've also played super star saga and bowser's inside story, and they were pretty good as well

Anyways, (to stay on topic) it seems the general consensus is that Peach gets to be with Mario. Where should Pauline go? Perhaps with Wario? Or maybe...Waluigi?

It's okay, better than Paper Mario (Mario Story). But I prefer Super Paper Mario for reasons that I won't explain now.

Don't compare the Marioverse and Fire Emblem. It would be the same if we compare The legend of Zelda with Fire Emblem (we know The legend of Zelda is better for some reasons)

Good things about Peach:

She is more pretty
She is nicer than Pauline(Did Pauline ever say Thank you Mario?)
She fits more for Mario

Good things about Pauline:
Pretty much nothing.
