Suggestions for Improvement

The like idea is awesome. It was on another forum I was at and worked pretty well.

And as for smileys, can the new smileys be added to the "more" thing as well? I mean, it'd be more convenient.

Then just don't click the "Like" button

Some idealistic things just get ruined by trolls...
why do you want to limit my emotions to like or neutrality

I'm reading through the ideas of the LIKE button here, and honestly it sickens me that the issue of "trolls" has to come up. Why does that even have to be an issue? The LIKE button is simply so people can agree or like someone's post without having to post a mundane/spam post.

I find it sad that this place has to think that way because of trolls or certain users.

Well, only the Dislike button is the one I'm wary of

i vote for having a dislike button, but dislike sounds too mean

we should have it say "not-so dislike" to avoid mean people

Hey, at least it's not called a "Hate" button

Well, they can always just put a Like button and not a Dislike button.

that's dumb though

disagree only works with opinions so anytime somebody asks a sarcastic question you would be agreeing or disagreeing with that question which doesn't make any sense

I don't see the big deal. A dislike button will probably cause people to be butthurt here. I have a bad feeling about that.

I know the mods see my point here with the use of a Like button.

don't presume to speak for me, thanks

personally i don't think a like button would work very well, i foresee people making posts solely devoted to getting lots of likes and bitching about posts not getting liked

so, yeah

that's why i'd also like a dislike button

once people see that their posts aren't good, they'll shut up, rather than keep going

but nah, blocky raises points.

I dont see the point of a like button on a forum, it just removes the aspect of higher discussion. If I wanted to have conversations with a like button, I'd go on twitter or facebook. But no, I want to have conversations with people, friends I know, and other friends I dont know as well yet. I cant get to know people I dont know yet if my only interaction with them is them liking a post I happened to have made a week ago, instead of responding with a well thought out (or less than well thought out as the case may be) comment.

Like buttons are the tools of the lazy who dont want to take the time to think out an actual response, and I feel it is detrimental to a discussion board to implement a system that discourages conversation.

And if we are already worried about peoples feelings and reactions to this system should they not end up getting the likes and reactions they are hoping for, I can only imagine how bad those reactions and feelings actually will be should this system be executed.

All in all, I feel a "like" system is a bad idea, because it fails to add anything to a discussion topic and for the potential for drama that may arise.

Yay somebody agrees with me.

Actually, I should say that I agree with you.

@Brock--Yeah, but I see a LIKE button eliminating spammy re-posts and "I agree" posts. Just because you like a post doesn't mean you can't comment on it.

i dont think that would eliminate the problem. obviously it originates from the userbase and adding a function isnt going to change it at all

If the goal is to reduce spammy comments, my suggestion is to simply enforce the rule on it. If people want to express their like for something, they can do so and provide at least some explanation. I don't think it's really too hard to do that.

just make mario black and white

remove mario's pupils

upload it to imgur

use it as an external image

You'd need to add some shine to him too, something to give him a metallic look otherwise he'd just be a gray mario.

It feels like most of you guys have forgot about us, if a like/dislike function is implemented, rules can be set in place as preventative measures in the case that the like/dislike function is abused somehow. (I should note though that a dislike function probably won't be added)

We're not just dudes who get fancy red names, we can do more than just glare at rulebreakers angrily thinking "man i wish i could do something about that guy breaking our rules"

thumbs up and thumbs down should be anonymous. That'll save on people hurting other's feelings.

I can't imagine that sparing anyone's feelings, anonymity might even tempt people to use the dislike button for the wrong reasons (In fact I've seen that happen here before, not naming anyone, though)

WOW THIS IS A LOT OF WORDS

I get the feeling that a like/dislike option wouldn't really affect someone's decision to post if they had something worthwhile to say. Not to mention:
