Yes, according to the Press Release by Nintendo, Metal Mario and Latiku are both playable characters.

I like how they added Metal Mario, but Lakitu? This is a whole twist here.
 
But the First Person View also switches the Slide Pad controls into Gyrosensor controls.

Me too. They should've kept Hammer Bro. in MKW. I hope Petey Piranha will be playable, also.

I don't like the addition of Metal Mario too much. They should have saved him for larger rosters. What I am awaiting is the decision of the Baby Mario Bros. into the game.
