Mario has a power-up for every Pokemon type.

Saw a topic like this at GameFAQS back when Galaxy 2 was announced. So I thought it'd be interesting to have a discussion about that here.

Anyway, like the title says, for almost every Pokemon type there is, Mario's been given a power-up to match.

Fire: Fire Flower
Water/Ice: FLUDD, Ice Flower
Grass: Yoshi's melon seeds
Electric: Luigi's Thunder Hand powers, Bulb Berry
Psychic: Bulb Berry
Dragon: Yoshi
Dark: Any evil Mario clone that's appeared in any game.
Normal: Small, Super
Fighting: Super Smash Bros. and any badges or items Mario can use in the RPGs to increase his attack power
Poison: Poison Mushroom
Ground: Drill from Galaxy 2
Flying: Too many to list so I'll just say the Cape Feather
Bug: Bee suit
Rock: Rock Mushroom
Ghost: Boo Mushroom
Steel: Metal Cap

Interesting, eh? Anyway, if you agree, disagree, want to change the list, or just want to talk about the subject at hand, this is the place to do so.

Drill from SMG2 for Ground type.

Added the drill.

I actually do remember the drill, but it only lets Mario dig through the ground. Mario's not actually using the ground to attack so that's why I didn't include it at first.

Maybe a Bulb Berry for Psychic type? Since it allows you to see invisible objects. Ironic how most power ups are flowers, fungi, and berries but none are related to Grass type.

Wow. I never realized that until now. Good point you got there.

As for the Bulb Berry, it might fit under electric, since it lights things up, but I guess your suggesstion works too. I'll suppose I'll put it in both electric and psychic.

AHA! For grass type, how about the melons Yoshi used to spit seeds like bullets (BULLET SEED!) at Yoshi's Island.

Clever thinking! :D And since he spits the seeds out of his mouth, that's basically the Mario equivalent of Bullet Seed.

I can even say Wario has a power-up for most Pokemon type too. Not all though...

Water: Bubble Wario
Fire: Hot/Flaming Wario
Ice: Ice Skatin' Wario/Frozen Wario
Ghost/Dark: Zombie Wario
Poison/Dark: Vampire Wario
Flying: Puffy Wario
Electric: Electric Wario
Dragon: Dragon Wario
Steel: Metal Cap
Normal: Normal Wario
Fighting: Super Smash Bros.
Psychic: Cosmic Wario (?)

Any other characters that has many abilities that can be related to Pokemon?
 
Looks like there's a generic enemy for each type. I once saw a picture on Deviantart where each type was represented by a Mario enemy, although I can't seem to find it anymore.

Fire: Podoboo
Water: Cheep Cheep
Ice: Mr. Blizzard
Grass: Piranha Plant
Electric: Lil Sparky (I think that's what they're called)
Psychic: Magikoopa
Dragon: Yoshi ( :yoshi: not enemy) (The picture actually had Yoshi saying this).
Dark: Shadow Sirens
Normal: Goombas, Koopas, Shy Guys, etc.
Fighting: Hammer Bros, Koopatrol
Poison: Any RPG enemy that can poison you
Ground: Monty Mole
Flying: Paragoomb/Troopa, Fly Guy
Bug: Wiggler
Rock: Whomps and Thwomps
Ghost: Boos (derp)
Steel: Koopatrol, Bullet Bills, any robots used by any villains
 
Blarggs (from Super Mario World) could fit in the Dragon enemy.
 
Cool so Mario fits in with Pokemon.

The Bulb Berry is nothing like the Psychic type from Pokemon. And Yoshi isn't a Dragon in any game except Super Smash Bros.

Other than that, pretty good.

Well like Shmutz said, Bowser kind of would be a Dragon-type.

And probably people are too lazy too make big lists like this
