Under normal circumstances, I don't mind new villains being added. In fact, there's plenty of villains in the Mario series that I prefer over Bowser (Grodus, Dimentio, Fawful, just to name a few). That's mainly because these villains actually had personality, and (in my opinion) they've come up with plans that are far better than just about anything he's ever come up with, and it was a pleasant change from the usual boring, repetitive storyline that usually plagues the Mario platformers.

The Tiki Tak Tribe, on the other hand, were very boring and generic, and had absolutely nothing about them that stood apart from the series' usual antagonist. Pretty much everything that they did could have easily been done with the Kremlings. That just goes to show that they weren't created to be anything more than filler characters.

Last I checked, K. Rool and the Kremlings can't hypnotize and/or possess the inhabitants of DK Island.

1. It's ok for him to face a different foe JUST THIS ONCE. Nobody complained about it in Jungle Beat.
Oh, yes they did.

Honestly, I didn't think the Kremlings' exclusion was that big of a deal at first, until one of the developers had the audacity to outright say "Does K. Rool HAVE to come back?" That pissed me off to no end how they went out of their way to say something like that, knowing how much people wanted the Kremlings to return (after they were already left out once before in Jungle Beat). I think that was just downright disrespectful, and did nothing more than add salt to the wound.
I didn't know a developer said that. What a jackass. I know a lot of so called hardcore DK fans hate Donkey Kong 64 because they claim it deviates too far from the original Donkey Kong Country series. HOW?!!

The Kremling are awesome and have way more personality than the Tiki Tak Tribe.

However that didn't stop me from loving this game to pieces!

I pray we'll see the Kremlings return someday.

To answer the question: No, I actually think it is underrated, mainly due to nostalgia, I guess.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is not an amazing game
I know it's an opinion and all, but c'mon...

I wouldn't mind a sequel including both the Tiki Tak Tribe and Kremlings working together, it could make for some interesting story plot.

I understand everyone's concern and all about the Kremlings not appearing, but it's always nice to see something fresh. Yeah, the developer saying "Why does K. Rool have to come back?" is a slap to the face, but more than liking he was responding to all the negative criticism that the game was getting before it was even released. I doubt the Kremlings are going to be scrapped anytime soon, but since they've appeared numerous times in the previous installments, I think they needed a little "break". Refer to Brock's post as well.

Also, I hated underwater levels, glad they got rid of them. Snow levels, meh. Ever since Gorilla Glacier, snow levels are not my thing. Thankfully, they actually put more than 2 factory levels in the factory world.

I know I sound like a broken record and shit, since I think this is like the thrid time saying this, but the Tiki Tak Tribe actually had an incentive to steal the Banana Hoard rather than trying to capture DK and his friends. It was their life force, and I thought the story was better than that of some of the previous ones.

I also agree they should add more Kongs besides Cranky, but overall, the game is excellent.

DK 64 is still one of my favorite DK games. It's also one of my favorites all time, and I still hold nostalgia for it. It was my first game ever (except for pokemon red/blue), so sure, I'm a bit biased. But I loved that game, and I also enjoy the other DK games, though I havent yet been able to play DKCR. :(

They really didn't need "a break" since they haven't been in a main title since DK64. You know who really needs a break? Bowser.

Bowser never wants a break, he will just try and kidnap Princess Peach and take over the Mushroom Kingdom as many times as he wants.

Have you ever seen the life-counter when you play as Bowser in TTYD?

Yeah, he's not having a "break" anytime soon.

No I don't think it's overrated I think it's a great game where the hells the sequel damnit!

Even if the Kremling Krew and the Tiki Tak Tribe appeared at the same time, it's quite likely that the Kremlings would've been hypnotized by the Tikis. As a result, K. Rool would have to make a temporary truce with his old enemies to get his troops back. I'd totally get a laugh out of having K. Rool play the anti-hero status.

I have to say that the reason the new-er DKCR has a different villain is because the DK series has a new villain is because a new company made it, so it will probably not have the Kremlings nor ever have them. I think it is likely for the Tiki Tak tribe to return for another DK game. Although I think they make pretty good villains to. Not that I'm saying King K. Rool and his gang should be replaced though......
:dk:
You've judging a whole game based on it's Villain?
