How do I get a custom rank?

Many other users (BabyLuigiOnFire, Smasher) have ranks that are different from the regular ranks. Do I have to be a Chatty Cathy, or can I just PM somebody to change it for me?

it changes automatically after you reach a certain ammount of posts.

also Chatty Cathy is gone.
