I must say it to be done in a degree.
Retro ones are made because they're classic and notable more than recent games. However, there might be new games that have sequels, where the protagonist ger more appearances than classic heros.
Unless Nintendo are willing to make Wiiware sequels to these classic games.
Excite series don't have recurring characters and story. Only 64 had some bikers with real names, and some robots as Excitebots. In Balloon games only ballon kids and White sisters are referrable.
The ones I'd consider in the list might be Alice and Frog.
