The first post said whoever gets the MOST votes gets eliminated, hence, why I didn't vote for Goombario, since I like him.

Yeah but eliminating does not mean they're losers. The goal of the game is to have an ultimate loser. Someone hardly anyone votes for. Don't think of it as elimination. Think of it more like safety from the shame of being "The Ultimate Loser"
