It's been discussed if Bandana Dee can be a representive character of species like the same problem in Mario games. If it's not proved in the next game, some other main characters are still prior.

Kirby's technically like that, too. His race is usually called "Kirbies" (I like to call them Puffs).

Marx would have to be more relevant of a character than any of the listed ones, except perhaps Waddle Dee.

Also I would say Zero or 02, but as they are giant floating eyeballs, that wouldn't make them the ideal playable characters. However, they would make prime boss material in adventure mode. Similar to how Ridley and Meta Ridley were incorporated.
