Some facts about names are not important since we know Japanese original names and the English ones are made to be different.

I think the staff might have plans for who should be in a roster, though as result they almost never make it good.

I think it's not known but conteroversial, like the topic I posted if Mario bros should be from other dimensions.

It is confirmed that Mario and Luigi are twins. It's all in the Yoshi Touch & Go instruction booklet, and also the fact that Baby Mario and Baby Luigi look nearly identical if it weren't for their clothing.
