He's trying to end a war in order to bring peace. I tried to show him that such a path would lead only to devastation and hatred of his kind, but Time Lords have always been stubborn.

*Right before everyone's eyes, in the midst of the attacks of Daleks, not one, but thirteen TARDISes fly in. Before the group can do anything, the TARDISes surround the planet, and the War Doctor's voice is heard all throughout space.*

Gallifrey stands!

*Within an instance, Gallifrey disappears. No sign of it anywhere. The Dalek fleets, completely missing the planet, fire on eachother, destroying their own fleets, and blasting the group's ship out of the sky, and into an oncoming asteroid. The ship crashes, but everyone on board survives. The group all look at eachother, in surprise that the War Doctor decided not to destroy Gallifrey after all*
