the pouch serves as an inflatable display structure like a frigate bird, and when under water to suction in small animals that might otherwise be too fast to catch like a monkfish does
the bony crest on top of spinosaurus head serves as an anchoring point for a large, keratin casque, after prey has been pulled onto land, spinosaurus presses the top of its head against it to hold it down while the claws dismember it
the tight contour hugging thick feather coat is not water proof, but instead absorbs water (like some diving birds today) in order to help such a bulky animal maintain neutral buoyancy
the jaws are lined with thick armor like scales, a stray fin ray or sharp dislodged scale could be very painful
the "whiskers" on the tip of the snout function much like barbels on fish
