As time wore on the PS2 came to light giving rise to the original playstation being differentaited. You can't just say "playstation" anymore because of the PSOne and the PS2 so the term "PSX" was coined to describe the EARLY models of the original playsation as the term "Playsataion 1" has come to refer to both the PSX and PS-One as they are both the same system.
PS-X (PlayStation Experimental) was an internal code name for the PlayStation during development.
