I wish Mario Golf 3DS is come out in 2013~14. I wish Better roster in game. No more QR with rainbow crap.
Recently Bad roster in every games since Mario Sports Mix.

I never got any characters though

Boo and Petey are pretty easy to unlock.

For Petey, beat the all the training side games with a single character (I recommend Yoshi or Peach for that). For Boo, get 50 birdie badges in Tournament mode.

I really wouldn't say that it's was the best Mario installment for the Gamecube ever, but it definitely had the cast at their best, golfing participation wise.

And maybe I'm biased, but the girls in this game are still win on all fronts. I so have to get back on this game because it's been a long while since I played it.
