Pokemon X and Pokemon Y

For those of you who care, I have native River pattern Vivillion. What type do you guys have?

River pattern as well. Received a few of the other patterns from a few of me mates 'round here, and one from wonder trading.

My native pattern is Modern.

It's probably the same for all of Australia then. I wonder why we got that one. When I think of Australia, the last thing I think of is 'river'.

EDIT: I'm going to start Wonder Trading as soon as I...actually have enough Pokemon to trade with.

So, I just started! Yay!

My Fennekin is Jolly, (of course :-[) but I got a female on my first try, so screw it. It clearly wants me to have one with a bad nature. I guess I can just use super training, anyway.

dont worry, im sure in gen vii theyll add a way to mindfuck your pokemon into having a different personality

and genetically engineer perfect ivs

Vivilion has different patterns on its wings depending on your 3DS' registered location. There's a whole bunch of 'em, but River Pattern's exclusive to aus.

Hawlucha's Attack stat really needs the boost from Adamant nature. 126 or so base Speed is really high, most people who are that high don't have +1 speed so Hawlucha outspeeds anyways.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Hawlucha could get KO'd before it even has a chance to activate Unburden, if it's not fast enough. If it normally outspeeds all the Pokemon with base speeds below 118, it'll have a better chance of triggering Unburden, and can wipe out the threats that can easily wipe it out if they get the first strike. No +Attack nature may sound like a burden, but when you look at the bigger picture, having a +Speed nature may make a big difference.

Maybe for one example to use, Hawlucha faces Galvantula, and Hawlucha's Unburden ability has not been activated yet. A Jolly Hawlucha can 1-hit KO Galvantula with a Flying Gem boosted Acrobatics, while a Timid Galvantula can 1-hit KO Hawlucha with Thunder. If Hawlucha isn't using a +Speed nature, Galvantula will most certainly wipe it out, especially when you realize that Compoundeyes raises the odds of Thunder hitting its mark.

no, theres some river vivillons in africa and south america too. source

ive got the modern pattern, which isnt the best. if id known about this beforehand i think i would have set my region to hawaii or something

Thanks for that! I assumed it was a location by location thing, and that map clarifies everything. Yeah, river pattern isn't too flash either, I'd've probably gone with sun or just plain meadow.

I have Polar pattern for my Vivillion.

But Michigan is such a water state (there is a body of water within 6 miles of anywhere you go in Michigan), I'm surprised we don't have the River pattern.

I caught Xerneas using one ultra ball while it was asleep but with health still in the green

So I'll end up with the Garden Vivillon when I get playing Y (most likely getting it as Christmas present now). Not too bad but not my fave (Monsoon).

Fortunately, Galvantula is really easy to predict, as every time I've faced one the opponent led with him, so I led with Hawlucha.

They always predict that I'm going to switch out and always use Sticky Web turn 1, so I just Power-Up Punch and then Acrobatics it to death, outspeeding with the speed boost from Unburden.

i must be a survivor

I don't actually use a Vivillion (or even have one), I just have the River-pattern ones in my game. Also a Scatterbug that will evolve into one in my PC.

Some people may eventually catch on to your strategy though, and just use Thunder to seal the deal.

In a similar manner, while Hawlucha has the potential to 1-hit KO Manectric with a Fighting Gem boosted Hi Jump Kick, Manectric slays Hawlucha with Thunderbolt. In that scenario, Hawlucha can't afford to get outsped at all.

I have an Ocean Vivillon that I got from a Wonder Trade just sitting in the PC.
Vivillon is a good Pokemon but my other ones are too high leveled and I'm too lazy to train it all the way up.

I'm currently training a Dragonair right now, though.

which is why you don't switch in hawlucha on manectric

you switch him in ON SOMEONE WHO HE CAN SET UP ON

that's like telling me "oh gyarados is bad because electric types one-shot him". There's a simple solution: DON'T TRY USING DRAGON DANCE WHEN THERE IS AN ELECTRIC TYPE SITTING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU

At least Mega Gyarados is less vulnerable to Electric-type attacks, and it has the defenses to take a STABbed Thunderbolt, outside of a Life Orb or Choice Specs boost, so it can at least last long enough to get a Dragon Dance in. What does hurt Mega Gyarados, however, is that the only Dark-type physical attacks that it can learn are Bite and Payback.

Edit: Carnage gave me a harsh reality about the stuff that I've brought up.

...the max speed any pokemon should aim for is scarfed base 110-115 speed pokemon becuase other than that you will rarely face anything beyond that and its not worth loosing power...

I guess that's what I get for not fully understanding Pokemon tiers.

Edit 2: It's clear to me that I'm quite clueless when it comes to competitive talk, so I'm not getting involved with those topics anymore.

Known hacker Smealum managed to hack into the game and change encounter IDs, revealing three unreleased pokemon

Nice, looks like they were real. Also, love the name of his pokemon; 'waitwhatisth'

The stone the last one is floating with looks like Spiritombs stone I think, with the eye looking thing and swirly line. I'm probably wrong though. Volcanion looks weird.
