Patrollers not being able to edit protected pages

While I don't personally think they should be trusted to protect pages (and I understand why), why can't they edit them. I mean they can still ban users but still can't edit pages that are protected, is this possible and is there a reason why they can't.
 
It's simply a difference between the rights of a patroller and a sysop. Sysops are just given more rights.
 
Only sysops can, because they are trusted with full keys of the wiki.
Patrollers are not as trusted as sysops. Do you get it now?
 
Same reason Patrollers can't delete pages or sysops promoting users
