you do know there's more than one hobbit film, right? that film was in 2012, this is 2014's nominations, I'm talking about the Desolation of Smaug, dude

and it wasn't "bashed" by critics, the film was well received by people, just as it had its haters. Critics are the scum of the planet, so nobody really cares about their opinion, and the only critic whose opinion I would ever consider listening to is Roger Ebert, and he died before being able to review that film.

it's about the same length that it took in Lord of the rings. It was about 25 minutes for both the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It was setting the mood, and telling the story. So I don't understand the fuss, really.

Some of them do have a point though. You shouldn't lump critics into one category of bitter, high-expetating, art-hating morons.
