Rating boards are unnecessary

Should we get rid of rating boards and make companies rate their games themselves?

Seriously, why the living hell did Kirby's Return to Dreamland get an E10+!?
Kirby is darker than you think.

Because Kirby refuses to wear pants?

Actually, I don't see why a company would falsely rate their game just to make it sell. Falsely rating a game won't make it sell. In fact, it would be false advertising which is illegal.

Also, that stuff you are saying about dream land is exactly what I mean. None of the rating boards around the world are accurate at all so why have them at all? It's like saying that you should keep a student in your class even though they are not acting right nor are they keeping good grades (F average students). I don't think a company will lie about their game to make it sell well mostly because it won't. Do you honestly think that Rockstar games would falsely rate GTA at an E rating or EC rating? To be honest I have seen the ESRB lie about content that is in a game themselves. Again, I think companies will be more honest and accurate about their games since they know their target audience, content and everything.

If a company has a game typically rated "M", but they are targeting a teenage market, they'd be stupid not to rate it "T".

Conversely, a relatively harmless "E" game might be bumped up the scale to attract older audiences.

It's illegal, but that doesn't stop people from doing it.

Have video game companies ever done it though?

False advertisement? Sure. Bending the ratings? Of course, companies will do whatever they can to get that certain rating that guarantees maximun sales, removing content, modifying it, etc. If your idea came though, it would just destroy whatever credibility ratings for games have, meaning soccer moms and politicians would start to complain again.

No, because ESRB rates games.

I was talking about false advertising. If they won't do that then they won't falsely rate games.

Give an actual example as proof.

Who care about the soccer moms and politicians. They aren't the staple to the sales. The actual gamers are. Here's an idea. Companies can go against the rating boards and put the rating the feel they want the game to be on the box despite the ESRB/PEGI or whatever rating being there. If nobody complains about a false or inaccurate rating. Then there is no reason for the rating board to exist.

i know a 6-year old that plays call of duty black ops 2 with his dad.

that's m-rated, right?
I don't see why the dad wouldn't let him play with him. It don't think it has blood or anything. If they keep the rating system, they need to come up with a rating similar to PG.

Edit: another accidental double post... Great! I had this on my wishlist for christmas *sarcasm*

I don't think you've ever played a Call of Duty game before.

There is a rating like PG. It's called E10

Honestly, no I haven't but I have seen gameplay of it and I don't see blood or anything. Just bullets and shooting. And besides, my wrestling game on my N64 has the option to include blood in it.

On the other hand, Instead of getting rid of ratings maybe we should advise parents to not take ratings to heart all of the time because they can sometimes be really inaccurate or even false.

Edit: There I go again with a double post. I apologize to any mods or admins that see these. none of the double posts I make are intentional, I promise.

You could just copy paste the text from your second post into the first post, and then delete the second post.

Yeah, but I feel that it is a hassle to do it (translation: I'm just to lazy) so I feel that it is easier to just explain that all of them are accidental. I'm pretty sure the admins and mods will understand.

Laziness is NEVER an excuse, and covering it up with a blatant lie to cover that excuse is even worse

And even if the double posting is accidental, you can always press the convenient "delete" (or remove, WHATEVER) button on the right side of the post.

@Baby Luigi and Cynthia

Okay, fine. I will just do it the "right" way from now on.

Also, I am not lying. None of the double posts I have made are intentional. I promise.
