The Official E3 2013 Thread

Gameinformer just released their latest issue dealing with E3 stuff, and I wanted to barf a little because they were obviously paid off by Microsoft.

They spent like 10-12 pages in detail of the XBox one, how it's going to be the best console ever, and basically just stating that everything about it is perfect and stuff, and then the last page they talk about a poll about how more people are going to be buying XBox one than any other system, and it was just godawful.

I recommend reading Destructoid for your gaming news.

I don't even care for any other company but Nintendo; unfortunately, my parents got like a 3 year subscription, so I'm stuck with it for a while. I really don't like it, since 95% is just stuff I don't care about and then that 5% of Nintendo.

Still upset with them saying that the Wii U was the basically a failed attempt for Nintendo when they revealed more about it last E3...

Eh, I do like seeing their review of games and such, and they are very fair with rating games not based on bias preference.

Why the fanboyism? There's plenty of wonderful games to be enjoyed on other platforms and PC, you know...

because some people dont want to try something new or out of their comfort zone.

a sad reality, but that's how it is.

I'm not being a fanboy about it, and I definitely know that other consoles have great games as well.

But it's not fun reading a magazine that blatantly says XBox is the best console and Nintendo sucks. Literally, everything lately in them is how bad Nintendo is about the Wii U and how Xbox is just dominating the console races.

I use ScrewAttack for gaming news. They cover Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PC, etc. Plus, they have Death Battle.

I would if their website wasn't so god damn buggy. It takes a few minutes to load and then it crashes Safari/Chrome.

I use Chrome and it works fine.

Ignorance...

Each gaming console I've had experience with has their own pros and cons. Not one system is better than the other. At least this is how I view it.(i will admit before the Xbox One fix i just laughed)

I've pretty much played games from all systems by each of the three active companies(save for the Wii U and Virtual Boy) and each system offers a variety of games I enjoy.

I guess I'm just an optimistic individual when it comes to gaming?

I believe that Nintendo is the best console for all gamers. It has great games and series for all-type of gamers. Xbox is more towards people looking for new technology, but I think they tried in the wrong direction for Xbox one. PS has always been a console for better, more realistic gameplay and such, and I mean with blu-ray, they tend to just do that. PC kind of is a mixture of some above and at the same time is not. I don't know enough about PC games enough besides Sims.

I just don't like reading magazines being so bias and trying to state that one console completely is unmatched and is perfect all across the board.

you do realize that gameinformer is literally like the worst gaming mag right?

also doesnt help that all fanbases are stupid, you'll always find fans in some fanbase that say everything sucks except what they got.

Seeing how this gen is shaping up, I'm willing to say Playstation is shaping up to be the console for gamers, all ages, while the Wii U is rapidly becoming a Nintendo/Platinum box and the Xbox is staying firmly as the dudebro console.

Sounds about right, although there are a good number of people on here that don't really side with any one company and just play what they like. I guess I don't really enjoy Microsoft consoles because I don't really like any of the exclusives in there compared to Nintendo and to a lesser extent; Sony.

Nintendo is a console? And last I checked, they've never made a game about exploring the creative mental worlds of the minds of other characters; nor a non-linear "pick your own path" action-stealth game with outstanding writing and an in-depth story concerning issues of cybernetic implants, cyber-terrorism, a Big Brother-esque totalitarianist government, and the emergent power struggle; nor a deconstructive observation of the modern military shooter that observes real issues of post-traumatic stress disorder, the ethics and problems of Western cultures waging war in foreign countries for situations they barely understand, and the extremes you would personally go just to survive and feel like the "hero"; nor a zombie point and click adventure game that focuses less on brutalising waves of monsters but rather on the interactions, emotions, and personality clashes between survivors in a world that's collapsed around them... uhh, list could go on for a while.

Oh yeah and most importantly, they never made anything like this:
QJ9HS6O.jpg

(seriously, everyone buy this thing ASAP, it's the best thing)

Nintendo's products may appeal to everything you want out of games, and that's fine (especially if you don't have much money to spend on buying stacks of different games), but don't for a second believe you speak for everyone. I personally don't want to deal with Nintendo's controller gimmicks (a big part of why I really hate this "must have Kinect" crap that Microsoft is trying to pull), so I typically play most of my newer games on the PS3 or 360 unless there's a Nintendo console exclusive I really want. There are some games on Nintendo's consoles I want to buy, but not because Nintendo made them, I just find them relevant to my interests; but generally, most of the kind of games I want to play these days tend to be on other consoles.

I was meaning that Nintendo's consoles are more all-around in terms of age-focused games.

Like Mario is meant for earlier players, casual players, and family gaming in multiplayer things.

Zelda is more for the more moderate gamer that enjoys solving puzzles, exploring huge worlds, and like a bit of violence.

Pokemon is more for the rpg players and the more dedicated players as they usually are time consuming in the gameplay.

Metroid is more for the mature players that love shooting games and such, and though it doesn't meet all needs, at least it goes up there with killing/shooting games nowadays.

Pikmin is definitely for the strategic player that often love to deal under the stress of a time limit and figure out how to make each day better than the last in terms of organization, gameplay, and action.

Kirby goes back to the more casual players and again more focused on the younger gaming audience with some of their games.

Smash Bros. is for those that love fighting games, as well as strong players battling each other out to show dominance.

Now, I didn't mean to make it out like every video gamer will love Nintendo or anything, I'm just saying is that Nintendo focuses their game and their series on a broader scope based on age. Like, most of their games have a good amount in each category. Xbox and PS are doing better with it, but most of their games deal with more mature stuff, and haven't really had many games in family gaming and towards younger audiences. Not saying they don't have games in those categories per se, but Nintendo has a more balanced approach to their games.

Sony had Crash Bandicoot and Spyro for quite a long time, and in the early days of their lifespan had Parappa the Rapper, Vib-Ribbon, MediEvil, Ape Escape, and Everybody's Golf. They provided Legend of Dragoon and Arc the Lad for devoted RPG players, and held Final Fantasy for a long time as well as Xenogears. They have Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter, they have Ico and Shadow of the Colossus to meet the fantastical quota, LittleBigPlanet is one of the most family-friendly games today; Fat Princess, Buzz!, the Thatgamecompany trilogy (Flow, Flower, and Journey)...

This isn't variety for all age groups?

(I only got my 360 a few months ago so I can't go into great detail about Microsoft, I won't pretend I'm an expert on something I'm not)

yeah, that kind of blows. Luckily they decided to make the PS3 the home of the newer Tales games instead of the 360, since I don't plan on buying a 360 anytime soon (So I can't play Vesperia sadly).

I'm one of those people who dosent care what game a console is on as long as it is good.

The only problem is that most people don't want to or can't afford to buy more consoles so they have to choose between them. It doesn't matter how good a game is if you don't have a console that can play it. So choosing between companies and systems is necessary (Unless you have the money to buy them all).
