According to an Iwata Asks, Miyamoto did not like the way Bowser was portrayed in the past few games, so they just got rid of his personality completely. I mean, seriously. WTF? Why is it that Miyamoto suddenly had a problem with it, when Bowser's been that way for the past sixteen years, ever since Super Mario RPG? It's almost as if he tried to ruin the game as much as possible.
