Still, Sakurai has to know that Mewtwo was garbage before. he'll probably buff him. He's done it before with Kirby going from Melee to Brawl, and the opposite was done with Meta Knight between Brawl and Smash 4.

But then again, Ness was trash up until Smash 4.

Link, Mario, Samus, and Ganondorf were totally OP in Meele, and they hit the nerf hammer in Barlw. And in Barlw, Samus was obviously too broken after the transition so it didn't get any real nerfs or buffs. And Zelda's terrible unbalance was also a common citation by fans, so in Smush, she got a useless special move and she has the same mobility as a cardboard.

The Smash development team doesn't know appropriate buffs and nerfs. Not saying that Mewtwo will necessarily be nerfed further, but I guess anything can go.

This is also the same team that brought us tripping and bosses in stages. I'm honestly not holding out much hope.

Fair enough.

Oh Sakurai, just let the PMDT balance games for you.
Project M isn't the only mod that actually balances its game better. Brawl-, Brawl+, and Balanced Brawl also balance the game, with Brawl- being the most bold, as it makes characters "broken" but still competitive and fun to play.

But yeah, independent modding teams are something I'll look forward to in the future.

The funny thing about Ness being good in Smash 4 is more from passive buffs due to the game's engine/physics compared to the past games. But when we look at his moveset, well...

- Juggling is more efficient for him because airdodging to the ground gives lag, which allows him to either hit with an aerial or get a grab in to punish, so baiting one (either with PK Thunder or fake hopping or both) rewards him well.

- He can recover safer without worry of edgehogging due to new ledge mechanics.

- PK Fire traps better because hitstun is actually there. D-Throw allows better and more consistent follow ups due to hitstun.

- (Most) explosives are now considered energy based, so he can absorb more with PSI Magnet.

- Rage (doing more knockback when Ness is at higher damage) boosts his potent KO options even more.

- Shielding no longer pushes you off of a platform when hit and shieldstun is even lower, so shield grabbing and getting Back Throw KOs works better for him, especially considering his short range.

- Reflections in general are improved as the speed is amplified much more and also the angles seem to change to actually work against the opponent when reflected.

- Chaingrabs aren't a thing anymore and Ness no longer has Grab Release issues (the latter I guess isn't really passive though lol)

- In general, range has been nerfed (I look at you Marth and some other characters' grabs) so Ness isn't outranged as badly.

- Yo-Yos don't hit while charging anymore (which would've been really nice especially considering how lenient dodging is this game and how many people on For Glory LOVE to roll :P).

- Down Air is his worst aerial by far now. The spike hitbox is now based on position and VERY strict timing (it literally only stays out for a frame lol), and even when it hits, it's not as rewarding compared to other spikes. The sourspot also got nerfed BADLY and can't even KO anymore (at reliable percents obv). The landing lag is even worse now.

- Forward Air is a mix, but the damage output being only about 7% as opposed to 9% is kind of a shame. It does have a nice property of dragging the opponent with Ness, so I guess it's a win there.

-Back Air sweetspot feels a bit less consistent? (Unsure about this one, I find it a bit easier to get the sourspot with this thing now)

- Forward Smash range is BAD now. I can't count how many times I've tried to hit someone with it and BARELY missed when it looked like it should've hit.

- Up Tilt, while being buffed in power, has less horizontal range.

- Forward Tilt's KO Power is lame now. I remember using that as like a last resort KO move back in Brawl (at like the ledge, as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n109o0kmgcQ&t=1078) and now it barely even does anything.

- Can't stall his descent with Magnet anymore, AND can no longer roll forward (as in the direction where the projectile comes from; if it comes from the left he can't cancel it into a roll to the left for some reason). Also Magnet apparently has a 30% healing cap (but I wasn't too sure if there was one in Brawl; I know I was able to absorb Master Hand's Missiles and heal 60% in a shot but not sure if it applied to other moves lol) now.

Quite a bit of characters that were usually not good much at all in the previous games but now are solid options from time to time. Link, Yoshi, and Sonic are perfect examples of being far improved from their previous Smash appearence(/s)

There's still some degree of clear better characters then others. But Smash 4 is the one official game where the gap isn't as far as in previous games. Diddy may be on top right now but he's not hilariously OP like Meta Knight. It's still possible to know the matchup and win. Heck there was a tournament with some pretty good players where Mii Swordfighter got 1st and so far the Mii Swordfighter is considered one if not the worst viable character. (Maybe because mainly there are better options for Swordfighters then the Mii but yeah)

I'd laugh so hard if it ends up nerfed from Melee.

This is absolutely impossible. Mewtwo can't suck more than he already did in Melee D:

HE'S COMING. IT'S HAPPENING.

Lol, watch that he does suck more because Sakurai saw all your posts shitting on him.

I'm sure that Mewtwo will be a lot better. I think just from the physics of the game that it'll make even Melee version Mewtwo better than Melee version of Mewtwo in Melee (if that made sense).

Takamaru wouldn't have been a bad choice, but I never really supported him so eh.

honestly would have taken him over the retro we got, though.

Are people even aware of Takamaru? His biggest role outside of his own NES JP-exclusive game was Captain Rainbow. He's a cool samurai and all, but I'd just find him an odd pick as a fighter. Granted, we got Marth and Roy before Fire Emblem was even a thing in North America, but the series was definitely popular in Japan.

Waluigi is one of my favorite Mario characters, but Assist Trophy is the perfect spot for him, and there are plenty of assists that would be much better choices to promote than him.

Sakurai is very aware of the various insane character ideas on the miiverse.

do you think what i think?

HE'S GOT NO STY- *shot*

Like Isaac.

Oh wait, he doesn't even get to be an assist anymore.
