i agree, the backgrounds and the music are the only great things about final destination. the rest of the stage is okay.

i really don't get this fixation that every stage has to just be a clump of platforms or a single, flat surface or all that. sidescrolling stages are (normally, fuck rumble falls) really interesting, in my opinion, and this one's looking pretty great.

Project M fixes this. The stage is reworked to be stationary and balanced, but you keep the background and music.

King K. Rool is a possibility. Though are you joking about Eggman? A 2nd Sonic character isn't too likely. Though I'd gladly take Eggman getting in if it meant it was either him or Shadow. (But I'd still like Tails to be the 2nd Sonic character should there ever be one)
