That chest had me for a while, then its answer made me face-palm.

It's some Master Ore.

Clever it was, but uber annoying. All the other dungeons were easy to get the treasure, but dark palace was tricky and was very hard to figure out. Had to look it up, and I almost had it but I was bombing the wrong switch.

Agreed. I forget how I figured it out. I think I either somehow figured it out myself or ended up using the Hint Glasses. Probably the latter, but I don't recall.

For me, I just had to look it up. I tried the hint ghost, but I think either it didn't say, or I talked to the wrong ghost (there were like 4 of them in the room).

Lol, sorry DragonFreak for all the spoilers.

It's OK. I should actually be thanking you and Icemario.

Question: Where are the Pegasus Boots? Are they easy to find? I swear, I've looked everywhere and I can't find them. If they're in a dungeon, that would suck.

I'm deciding to do the dungeons ALTTP order. I missed the dungeon item in the Dark Palace and I had to look it up. How was I supposed to know that switch triggered it?

Good grief, someone actually had as much trouble as me with them darned boots.

You get them in Kakariko Village, where it is very easy to do and you can do it very early on.

Well, walls flipped in other parts of the dungeon so that's probably their hint, though it's still really vague even then.

Ah, thanks. I found a Hint Ghost that told me what to do from there.

For ANYONE who's played ALTTP, that's really confusing. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I thought you needed the boots so I just ignored the guy, then after a friend of mine told me you got the boots there and confirmed my growing suspicion of him having them, I catch him, get the boots and feel like an idiot to have foolishly overlooked that. And what really bugs me is this was after I saved 6 Sages, so I missed out on loads of optional goodies. Though I don't believe you actually need the Pegasus Boots in the game, which actually surprises me.

I actually played ALTTP just before I played this game, yet I didn't realize this. Yes, it would be more fitting for the Pegasus Boots. Though the thought of it being the Dark Palace's dungeon item would be disappointing as it really couldn't have much use there (but if the dungeon was re-designed it probably would) and I feel it would've been amazing if you had to use it in the infiltration stage before the actual dungeon instead, since great things could've been made with that, I bet. Unfortunately, the way it was actually designed makes using it really disadvantageous in the area so I can't really try doing that.

*sigh* So much for my old plan. It looks like I can't beat the dungeons in ALTTP order after all, considering I need the Titan's Mitt to enter the Swamp Palace, which is the 2nd in ALTTP order. The Titan's Mitt is found in the Desert Palace, and you can only get there by going through Thieves Town. So much for non-linearity, guys!

You can. Also, probs should have used spoilers.

Bombs needed for eastern palace.

Find the bomb flower, and drain the water, and THEN hookshot across for Swamp.

You can easily get through Skull Woods without any item.

You then can head through Thieves' place.

And next you can get the fire rod and scale the Ice Ruins.

And then Misery Mire's Desert Palace.

And finally conclude with Turtle Rock.

But my order I did was - Thieves' Hideout, Dark Palace, Skull Woods, Swamp Palace, Turtle Rock, Desert Palace, Ice Ruins.

My order was
Thief, Swamp, Skull Woods, Turtle Rocks, Ice Ruins, Dark Palace, Desert
at least I think that's what it was I might have switched the (ice and turtle rock)

Ah, nevermind.
I thought you had to be able to lift the dark rock to be able to take the bomb to the entrance of the dungeon, but it turns out you could just go around the other side.

...I guess I screwed up my progression for nothing. Ah, well.

My order was...
...Turtle Rock, Dark Palace, Thieves' Hideout, Desert Palace, Skull Woods, Swamp Palace and Ice Ruins.

Can I just say, trying to get all the save points (and an easy access point to any dungeon, so I can do them whenever), is surprisingly difficult.
That path to get to the Ice Cavern...boy, that was difficult. Those fire-breathing lion enemies are so hard! Their range is ridiculously far, and they drain your hearts incredibly quickly if you get caught in the fire.

ha you think that's hard just wait till you actually do the ice cavern

There better not be more timing your falls to hit platforms over death pits that make you start over if you fall into them.

Nah, it is only in Rosso's Ore Mine/Death Mountain Eastside ascent. I actually found it fun though, except for those eye bats in Lorule that seem to dodge my sword attack just as I swing at them, and manage to him me.

The giant hand-eye boss in skull woods was really easy, didn't take long to kill him at all.

So I finally got round to tackling the Ice Ruins in Hero Mode with 10 Hearts, the smaller shield, a Level 1 Master Sword and the standard Green Mail.

Getting there was pretty easy, though the bats and the level they flew at were very pesky.

The dungeon itself was glorious, and enjoyable once again, but to a fairly greater extent and felt threatening at points (including the boss), which I especially liked.

The boss felt considerably more dangerous (which made me think to use the Pegasus Boots during its triangle attack as it was a 1HKO for me) as I was less equipped than last time since I took this place on first instead of last, which made it more of a rough fight for me.

I don't care what anyone says, really, I love the Ice Ruins even more after that awesome experience.

I actually found the Ice Ruins to be the toughest dungeon, but I never said I didn't enjoy it. I just hate getting to it, because I have to go through Rosso's Ore Mine and then going through the portal and climbing up those thin ice things and stuff.

I would probably rank the dungeons for me as this (the sages one I should add):

Ice Ruins
Swamp Palace
Desert Palace
Skull Woods
Thieve's Hideout
Shadow Palace
Turtle Rock (I just didn't like how short it was. It just felt boring to me.)

Does anyone else find the dungeons to be really short? I swear, they feel shorter than the ALTTP dungeons. Although that might just be because I don't get stuck as often.

This game was really great, it wasn't too long but it didn't drag on. I managed to get all 100 crab things and I'm only missing 4 heart pieces. All the upgrades too. Although I didn't get the pegasus boots until right before the final dungeon, oops. Had no idea how to get them until I used a Hint Ghost. The Dark Palace big chest stumped me as well, the hing ghost in the middle helped me though.

After reaching the Dark World:

-Thieve's Hideout
-Turtle Rock
-Swamp Palace
-Dark Palace
-Skull Woods
-Desert Palace
-Ice Ruins

The pins on the map helped out immensely with keeping track of the crab guys and heart pieces that I wasn't sure how to get or couldn't at the time. Turtle Rock's boss was a big pain in the ass, had to get two blue potions for it.

Well, I never put those words in anyone's mouth, I was just saying that because I really don't think anything can change what I think of the Ice Ruins. And just for the record, I completely agree with how tedious it is to get there. I may have found it somewhat easy and all, but it's really darn annoying.

And my order of dungeons would probably be:

- Ice Ruins
- Turtle Rock
- Dark Palace
- Thieves' Hideout
- Swamp Palace
- Skull Woods
- Desert Palace

I only really used the pins so I remembered to try for that one big chest in the Dark Palace, but in my second Hero Mode run I'm trying to find that one heart piece I've missed, so I pin areas so I don't remember to add them to the list of ones I've gotten.

I used the pins
in a kind of metroidvania style. Like, if I saw "Oh, I need this weapon to get past this area", I would mark it in red. If it was a fairy fountain or Great Fairy, I would mark it in blue. I was going to use yellow for the lorule portals, until I realise they marked those automatically.

Wait, what? You can make the pins different colours? How?

Oh, never mind. I figured it out after goofing around for a bit. That's really cool, I'm using these more now.
