I see it as a Platformer RPG.

I don't think RPG's are limited to turn based, there's Action RPG's and Turn-Based RPG's, etc.

Dang it, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Super Paper Mario definitely is an RPG, it's just not turn-based.

Even with out the turn based battles it still has alot of RPG elements.

Basically, if it's a game where you level up, you earn experience points, and you use equipment that make you stronger, it's an RPG

Does Super Paper Mario look anything like this to you?

No, but Squirps does do that same basic function.

It doesn't make Super Paper Mario an anti-tank weapon that shoots grenades.

Just to point that out that this is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of knowing the facts

It's more of an RPG than Sticker Star.

You can't be "more" of a role-playing game. It's either that or not. Just because it deviated from the previous three doesn't make it in a different genre.
A role-playing game (RPG and sometimes roleplaying game[1][2]) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making or character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines.
Sticker Star sounds like this.

BUT, it isn't an RPG because it isn't this:
...a shoulder-fired, anti-tank weapon system that fires rockets equipped with an explosive warhead.
Turn-based doesn't make an rpg

then a lot of awesome rpgs wouldn't be rpgs anymore

goddamn course it is an rpg. Obviously a rpg/playformer combo, but a rpg nevertheless

With that logic though, that's like saying all Mario RPGs are not an RPG because I don't see any weapons like that in the game.

I think he's joking.

1 - LGM is a she.

2 - I wouldn't be surprised if she was joking, though I'm not sure. I define it as an RPG.

Ok, sorry, didn't check the profile.

And yeah, I think Sticker Star is an rpg.

Role-playing video games are a video game genre where the player controls the actions of a protagonist as this character lives immersed in a fictional world.

This definition is extremely broad, nd is more of a definition of video games in general, it is more some of the elements in the game that make it an rpg.

Rpg elements that i think truly make a game an rpg?

experience/leveling system, items, quests, good story/plotline, exploration, combat/action, equipment, parties, dungeons, bosses.

Stuff like that.

The following games/series are considered rpgs without little to no debate and are not turn-based: (Also most of them are awesome games/series)

Zelda
Baldur's Gate
Dragon Age
Borderlands/Mass Effect (shooter/rpg, more debatable than the others)
elder scrolls
fallout
fable
torchlight
dark souls

I think i made my point.

@bmb: an rpg is also a type of rocket launcher, it was a obvious joke

Honestly though, the definition of rpg is really screwed up in the videogame industry anyway.

yea, i prefer to ignore the official definition, too broad and prefer to (like i said) look at some of the common elements in games that are considered rpg games to determine it.

Yeah, in fact, if you take the definition at face value, every videogame is an "role playing game" because you are taking on a role.
