Yeah, in fact, if you take the definition at face value, every videogame is an "role playing game" because you are taking on a role.

unless someone makes a video game where you play yourself

but would it be considered taking the role of yourself?

i don't know, that is confusing

like, if gordon freeman were to play half life, would he be taking on a role?

Something that really defines an RPG is the fact that you are achieving so sort of upgrade as the game goes along. That could be leveling-up, gaining new items to help aid in battle, or improving your stats to better yourself. You alway start out weak, like at Level 1 or with 3 Hearts, and you progress with your stats as the game progresses, and the better you prepare yourself and gain new abilities, the more it will help you in the game.

Platformers are just getting from Point A to Point B and trying to get the prize at the end. Missions/levels are usually what each route is, and passing each level just boosts you forward in the game. You aren't gaining any power-ups or improvement from the game - even though there is items as the items can be easily taken away - or things that you can collect outside of the level. Basically it's just trying to puzzle solve to the end.

Sports is just sports; play as you desire.

That is a very nice definition, bmb, i really like that.

but my question still stands, if you play a game, where you play yourself, are you taking on a role?

I guess it would be similar to an actor playing themselves? Does an actor "act" themselves? Do they take on the roles of themselves?

like, if gordon freeman were to play half life, would he be taking on a role?

Yes, since in those situations the roles they take on are themselves as they are/were when placed/forced into specific scenarios/situations.

It's like Jason Rohrer playing Gravitation. He designed the game, and the characters in the game are himself, as whom you play, and his son, with whom you can interact in the specific scenario of the game.

I see it as a Platformer RPG.

I don't think RPG's are limited to turn based, there's Action RPG's and Turn-Based RPG's, etc.
I agree with this. While I do think it's more of a Mario platformer than an RPG, there are still the RPG battles, even if they're real-time instead of turn-based.

Is not an Rpg and i little hate the game...i give it a 7 of 10..

Likewise with the battles, you still gain points that help you level up in the game, and enemies have HP meaning that one attack might not kill it like in the Mario platformers, so though the battles are not turn-based, they still have an rpg-esque style to it.

Could you explain why you don't think it is an rpg.

Turn based gameplay is not a requirement for rpgs at all.

the only rpg elements ive seen are like level up(which increases hp and sometimes damage), story based game, and some ability use.

So in essence its a platformer rpg of sorts, although its more focused platforming than actual rpg elements.

well ive only seen videos of it but ill give my opinion on what ive seen.

Can't say its too much of an rpg it looks like the game was literally designed to be a turn-based game without rpg elements.

lack of equipment, no experince gain, very little dialogue.

You could say stickers are equipment but equipment isnt generally a one use item, so with that in mind, stickers are items.

Not many rpg elements going for it quite frankly.
You seem to be talking about Sticker Star, not SPM.
