Pronunciation of Mario characters

Am I the only one who pronounces Mario's name Mah-Rio and not Mahr-rio?

as in Marry-O? Mar as in Marry and not as in Mars?

The two differences are so subtle, though. And, I'm wondering, why do we pronounce "Mario", "marionette", and "Marion" differently? Shouldn't we pronounce the same, correct way (as in Mahr-ee-o, mahr-ee-o-net, mahr-ee-ohn)? I've always wondered that.

I pronounce Birdo as in "Bird" and "Dough" put together.

Why do we pronounce though, tough, cough, bough, and through differently?

The same with "pool" and "blood". If they're both spelled with "oo", why is it sometimes pronounced like "o" and other times like "u"? English is one strange language. That's why I prefer the Spanish pronunciation; if you see a letter, you pronounce it. That's the rule.

I've always assumed that it's the Italian pronunciation of Mario, because that name originated from Italy, during the Roman period, where it originated from Marius.

I pronounce Mario's name the way most people seem to: MAHR-ee-o. Every other name seems to be self-explanatory.

This reminds me of a very very very old Rudnicki thread.

:lakitu: is lah-ki-too, :fawful:(it was worth a shot) is faw-full, and :dimentio:(again) is di-menn-tee-oh.

Ah. Dimentio.

When SPM first came out I pronounced it as "Duh-men-tee-o".

But now: "Duh-mench-e-o". Like Dementia.

His name afterall is a portmanteau of "dimension" and "dementia".

I pronounce Wario as "War" in "World War" and "rio" as in..."Rio" I guess. War Rio.

But I sometimes pronounce him as the "cute man" too.

yoshi: yoh-shee
bowser: bow-zer (bow is an "take a bow")
wario: wah-ree-oh
waluigi: wah-loo-ee-gee
mario: mar (as in the begining of mars)-eee-oh
luigi: loo-ee-gee
bowser jr.: same as bowser's with junior at the end
rosalina: roh-sa-lee-na
koopa troopa: koo-pah troo-pah
goomba: goo-m-bah

i do that too
becuz i've actually been to italy and there are people there named mario
I'm pretty sure the a in Mario for an Italian would be the Italian /a/ not the English /æ/ as in Marry /mæri/, even worse if you say Marry as /mɛri/ like me(I do not know if Middle Earth English exhibits the Marry/Merry merger).

Not a character but many lets players pronounce Meringue Clouds as The way it looks, Mer-in-gue when it is Mer-ang or some pronounce it as Mer-an-gew.

Thwomp- Thw-ump
Whomp- W-ump
Broozer- Bro-zer

Mecha Koopa- Me-cha (as in cha cha cha chia... Lol) Koopa
Banzai Bill- Ban-Zai Bill some say Bonzai
Bob-omb- Bomb-omb
