The age old question. Which sci-fi series is superior?

For me, it's easily Star Wars. It's very nostalgic for me. Even after I take the nostalgia goggles off, I still love and admire the original trilogy for being such revolutionary and well made movies.

Just ignore those pesky prequels.

I didn't really care much for Star Trek

inb4 nerd rage/argument

The prequels were good. I liked the face-paced lightsaber battles.

But it depends, Are we talking about the Star Trek movies or the Star Trek show? (Or all)

personally i like both quite a bit, they both have their own pros and cons.

Star Trek's characters (or at least in TNG) are much more fleshed out and are way more interesting than any Star Wars character (except Grand Admiral Thrawn, that guy's awesome).

On the other hand, Star Wars is interesting because of how everything relates to the galaxy as a whole, increasing the "epic" feel to something Star Trek never has and never will match.

So I like them both, for different reasons.

that said though, the greatest capital ship is easily the battlestar

While I love both series (and agree that they each have their own pros and cons, largely because television series and films are a bit like apples and oranges as far as comparisons go, but I digress), if I had to choose one, it'd be Star Trek.

I'm a big fan of Star Wars as I'm sure quite a few people know. I haven't seen any Star Trek films so I can't comment yet but the 2009 reboot is coming on telly soon so I'll comment then.

Star Trek for me all the way
star wars is too mainstream, it doesn't have the same feel, its like nearly everyone has seen star wars, but I'm like one of two-three kids in any one of my classes who even has seen the original star trek
star wars just feels different for me

and the Abrams reboot star trek is not REAL star trek canon, its an alternate universe, so its not the authentic star trek experience, they are great films in their own regard though

oh and why no stargate on the list?
and while were at it why no Firefly?
why no Battlestar Galactica?
farscape?

I personally prefer Star Trek (more character development, lengthier and more detailed plot arcs, wicked-ass starship designs, etc.), but I've always felt this debate is comparing apples and oranges.

Babylon 5 and Andromeda were also pretty good. Earth: Final Conflict had some cool characters too.

Saw the 2009 Star Trek film yesterday. It was pretty good but it doesn't even come close to Star Wars IMO.

well of course it doesn't, abrams's adaptations were kind of meh to begin with.

go watch some tng and then get back to us.

watch original series first
but remastered, and as for special effects limitations keep in mind when it was made

are you serious

tng >>>> original series

TOS is dumb because they always land on the exact same planet and in 90% of episodes Kirk spends the entire episode waffling on a decision. Also the only good characters are Bones and Spock.

Whereas with TNG you have Picard and Data who are awesome, and Worf, Riker, Crusher, and Geordi who are all pretty cool. The only main character who is lame is Troi. And of course Wesley.

If every Wesley appearance was replaced with Ensign Ro, that's be great.

tl;dr watch the next generation before the original series, if you watch the original series at all

hahahaahhahahaha original series better, who said such non sense, not me
I just said to watch it first, that way any cameos will be more meaningful :P

TNG was the first series I watched back when I was, like, eight. Good times. However, these days it's tied with Deep Space 9 as my favourite series: I just love DS9's longer story arcs and all of its many, many characters. Overall, however, the original series' movies were the best, tho, imho.

But I love the hokey special effects. The epic showdown between the Wiggleprise and the planet-eating Christmas sock? Classic!
