Or is it just me? My family watches it all the time, and even when I'm not watching it, I can hear it in my room.

It's supposed to be a "comedy sitcom", but most of the jokes they make are sexual inneudos or references, and I catch majority of them; they're not funny.

And then the rest of it is a bunch of "genius talk" that I don't understand at all.

Your thoughts?

It's so damn funny, I frequently pee myself when watching it.........why did I just admit that?

its really not. i dislike how they assume the girl doesnt get it because 'girls cant be geeks'

yeah true but earlier she didnt and yeah. honestly ive only seen the episode with bill nye

No, it's because she went to community college.

I haven't watched the show in a while, but like most of its kind, some episodes are better than others.

They did have all the girls being geeks and discussing Thor on that one episode (thus renewing the guys' faith in being true to their nerdy passions - one of the better episodes, imo).

There are things about the show that I like (the science and geek culture references are usually quite good), but other times it feels too much like you're laughing at the characters - especially when it comes to Stewart, Raj and Amy.

I know I didn't see it coming. That was great.

And this too. Which, YMMV if that is funny or not.

I'm biased against shows with laugh tracks.
I think I remember watching a behind the scenes thing and they had a live audience

I can't possibly bring myself to watch more than the few episodes I've already seen because, as Walkazo said, it feels like you're laughing at the characters a lot of the time, rather than at their jokes and such. It comes off as less of a celebration of 'geek culture' with the endless references and 'hey look how smart i am by using complex phrases' humor, and more like "omg lol look at these nerds THIS IS REALLY HOW THEY ALL ACT WOWO". Whether or not this kinda feeling is maintained throughout the series, I can't risk watching an episode because, in addition, this is one of the things that I admit that I make the cringe-worthy judgment based more on the general fanbase. It's quite anecdotal but all of the fans of the show I know offline are the kinds of people who think they're super intelligent because they know some fun facts or because they read XKCD, regardless if they truly understand the humor or not. Plus "LOL SHELDON SAID BAZINGA AGAIN WOW AMAZING".

Answer: Yes. It's basically making fun of geek culture using the more extreme stereotypes for comedy appeal. It's like they want people to think "Wow, thank god I'M not like that!"

It does have some genuinely funny moments but most of them are forced by the laugh track. If you watch the show and don't listen to the laugh track it is about 80% less funny. I also like the geek in-jokes because it's like, "Hey I know about that," but Community does the same thing and better so if you're watching it for that reason do yourself a favour and watch Community instead.

I do love Amy though.
