Riivolution help with replacing files?

And I'm using Riivolution to load the files from my SD card, I don't know how to actually get files from the MKW disc. Last time I tried, I found out my computer can't load Wii discs. I have a new computer now, but I still don't really know how to get files from it without messing up the disc.
There are very few disc-readers that can read Wii-discs, it has something custom around it. A way of acquiring it nonetheless is by acquiring an ISO via a maybe-not-so-legit way, or Googling how to rip discs yourself via some way, I'm not into that.

I'll make a table.

plus Mario and Luigi for some reason look like Mr. M and Mr. L (with black hats) on the select screen, but normal during races. This may be due to the Driver.szs and Award.szs files I found online and downloaded.
It's because each driver-vehicle combo has it's own separate file. Every character has 49 models (51 for female adults except Birdo), and each their own textures. For example, Bowser on Bowserbike is not equal to Bowser on Shooting Star. Refer to my earlier linked list to see the file-combo names. (Even though you actually need to see the files to understand that latter.)

If you can link me the file for Mr. M&L, I can prepare you edited versions for in-race if you want.

I also requested a Fawful model hack over Toad, Koopa or Dry Bones on Mariokartwii.com but I don't know how to use those if anyone acutally does it.
You would have to replace one of the aforementioned files if you only want to replace one driver-vehicle combo, or all 47 if you want to replace one entire character. Note that the character selection screen and awards models are stored separately again. Also note that female adults have an extra model for the selection and awards screens, in their biker suits.

One final disclaimer from my side: I don't use Riivolution, so the part where you have your files and put them on your SD-card is where my help stops.

I don't need the Mr. M/L textures that were on the file (they only looked like Mr. M/L, the colors were different, I think they were someone's OCs or something) but if you can instead put a Fawful texture on Koopa or Dry Bones (it doesn't matter which) I'd like that. Just make sure the ZIP file has them in the right folders, because hell if I understand all the different directories. I'm trying to retexture Koopa right now, but unless I'm mistaken it looks like I'll have to go into each file and replace the textures.

Voice-replacing is the same as in Brawl right? I just go into the revo_kart.brsar and find the voices and replace them.

^Never mind the above, I got it working. Are there any custom tracks I can download by themselves (not part of a pack)?
Also if anyone has the time I'd like to learn how to texture hack characters.
this is the best texture hack
Except that isn't Mario Kart Wii.

I don't have a Fawful texture for those characters. Would only look weird imo.

That is correct.

Yes.

If I were to put up a link to some PNG files of edited textures, would you be able to use those? I am not sure of what some of the stuff was in that image, but I edited the yellow skin color, made the whole shell red, and added swirly glasses.

LakituderSchnell said:
Yes, PNG's are fine.
OK, tell me if this is enough: https://www.mediafire.com/?7ac36o9j2vtmg1l (It's for Koopa Troopa) (I only edited what looked like part of the character. The one eye fits all the eye animations, since I don't need the animations)

I'm first showing you a preview of the model in idle animation as seen in BrawlBox.

KoopaFawful1.gif

As you can see, the eyes look pretty screwed up there, so I felt as free as to change them a little bit.

KoopaFawful2.gif

Tell me what you think about it first, before I go about and change 49 files for nothing.

Looks great, except for the white rim of the shell. If you can make that red and make the shoes green, then it's good to go :) Thanks, by the way.

Have you tried getting a low-poly Fawful model and then rigging it to a character? I said low-poly because you can't replace an existing model with a bigger (a.k.a. more complex) model. The SZS Modifier simply won't let you.

If you're using Riivolution, the .xml file you're using dictates where your texture hacks go. The .xml file is in your Riivolution folder of the root of your SD card.

For instance, this would be my .xml file for Mario Sports Mix. I did Mario Sports Mix simply because the .xml file is short and simple.

Code:
<wiidisc version="1">
<id game="RMK"/>
<options>
<section name="Testing">
<option name="/Crap Replacement">
<choice name="Enabled">
<patch id="WarioSportsMixfolder"/>
</choice>
</option>
</section>
</options>

<patch id="WarioSportsMixfolder">
<folder external="/WarioSportsMix" recursive="false"/>
<folder external="/WarioSportsMix" disc="/"/></patch></wiidisc>

The ID is the first three letters of your game disc. Mario Kart Wii's ID is RMCE01, or RMC.

Anyway, the first half is just naming and whatnot. You can do anything with those names.

The second half, the patch id WarioSportsMix, is the name of the folder that contains the hacks I need for the game. In this case, the folder is found at the root of the SD card.

Chances are, you probably downloaded an existing .xml template. But again, using the general idea, you'd put your files in the <folder external> folder (if it's not there, then create the folder and name it exactly that; make sure it's in the root unless otherwise specified).

I don't know how to replace models or rig them. Heck I can't even use Blender, all I can do is move around a sphere. Also the only Fawful model I know of is that one LTQ made and I don't know if that's high or low-poly because I don't know the difference. (It's the one I recolored and am using as my avatar) Also iirc he told me it was in a format that didn't have bones or something, but i don't really remember exactly what the deal was.

So I should have a folder in my SD card called <folder external>? I only have Apps, brawlmods (for my Brawl stuff), mkwii, private, riivolution, and a readme.txt. In the mkwii folder I have folders boot, demo, main, My Stuff (made that because some tutorials tell me to have it, but don't really use it), race, scene, sound, staticR, brres.txt, four brres files, tpl.txt, and two tpl files.

It's not really hard, but you need 3DS Max to rig them and export them as .dae.

Well, I have the My Stuff folder as well. You usually put all your mods into that folder (look at your .xml; it probably says that it reads files from My Stuff).

Doesn't 3DS Max cost money? Anyway I doubt I'd be able to use it if I can't even use Blender.

As for my mods they are already in the various folders in the MKW folder where they supposedly belong (such as the Dark Bowser mod going into the correct folder for characters) What I did was download it and extract the ZIP directly to the MKW folder and it put the stuff in the folders for me.

The model I made is very high-poly (that is, contains a shitload of triangles), around 4000 triangles, whereas for Mario Kart Wii, you need a low-poly model (that is, very few triangles), 1000 triangles max. While I can try and make a lower-poly version, I do not have the ability to rig it at the moment. I have no idea to whose model I should rig it anyway, though Mario or Luigi seem good candidates. (Note here: there is a difference between using one's skeleton and animations and replacing a character with them.)

Anyhow, I made the changes in the texture you requested, and would like one final confirmation.

Looks perfect, thanks!

And if you can't rig it, would you be able to provide a version that someone else can rig? (I'd credit you if needed, I'm just wondering if that's possible)

Okay, gimme a little while.

Alright, a RAR is yours.
Thanks.

I've come across a problem when trying to replace the voice though... Other characters can have their voices previewed, but Koopa's voice (NK) has no preview for some reason. When I try to export one of the clips I get an unhandled exception. Is Koopa's voice stored elsewhere?

Koopa Troopa's voice is a .BANK file unlike the other files, unfortunately. Which is why Koopa Troopa voice clips are nowhere to be found in The Sounds Resource. So you can't really do much about those. :/

Is there no way to replace those or something? I did find another NK folder in the file that had more un-previewable files. There was a "replace" option but I was afraid to do anything.

Well, if you can't preview it, it means that the file can't be read (which is why people haven't extracted those files to a more readable .wav format). So replacing it probably won't do much good.

OK, so I'm now trying to play around with a Super Mario Galaxy level editor (Whitehole). I decided to add a new Power Star to Grand Finale Galaxy just to test things out, and when I obtained the Star, victory music played and Mario did his animation, but after that the game froze. Is there a fix for this?
