A Sonic the Hedgehog movie

I like the idea of having the movie dark and edgy, that way it could appeal to both kids and adults, what I don't like is making it both animated and live action like The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Oh well still kinda excited about this, assuming that Dr. Eggman will be live action here are some people who I think would fit Eggman:
Alec Baldwin
Robert De Niro
Tommy Lee Jones
Stanley Tucci
Paul Giamatti
Thomas Haden Church
John Malkovich
Ron Howard
Russell Crowe
Liam Neeson
Josh Brolin
Kevin Spacey

What do you guys think of a Sonic movie being made?

I don't know... dark and edgy especially with the Sonic series doesn't mean it will be good. Just look at the Shadow the Hedgehog game.

The adventure series had a decent balance though, even in SA2 which was much darker compared to the first Sonic Adventure. You still get a sense it's a Sonic game plain and simple fun. And any dark elements in the story don't take over until the last moments of the game. (Insane Doctor destroying the world for a revenge plot he cooked up before being executed 50 years ago) And brings a good twist and a sense of urgency.

And while the first one was definitely not that dark or edgy. It's the flashbacks of Tikal, Chaos, and the Echidna tribe that do have a sense of something terrible happened.

It's alright if they want to add dark elements to a story. As some Sonic games have actually done that and succeeded. But if you make it the overall focus, then you end up with something like Shadow the Hedgehog's story or Sonic 06 (Which one of the concepts for said game was "What if Sonic was in the "Real World"?")

danny de vito is better suited to being dedede for a kirby movie

i would've suggested philip seymour hoffman for eggman, but sadly he has the handicap of being dead, so that's a no-no

perhaps brendan gleeson would do well as eggman

sonic could be played by david spade, easy, he's got that young cocky feel about him

knuckles, i guess he could be played by judd nelson

as for tails, you'd need someone who's young, but could talk the technical language of tails. might i suggest former doctor matt smith? he's capable of pulling off an american accent

as for amy, we'd need someone young, but with the sheer annoyance, so i regretfully suggest vanessa hudgens for that one

and let's get vector in there too, what the hell. kurtwood smith has a rather gruff voice, he could do well.

Brad Bird (“Incredibles, “”Wall-E,” “Brave,” “Toy Story 2,” “Up”)
Wernick & Reese (“Deadpool,” “Monsters Inc,” “Zombieland,” “GI Joe Retaliation”)
David Berenbaum (“The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “Elf”)
Phil Johnston (“Wreck it Ralph” and “Nebraska”)

This is apparently a shortlist of writers that the team behind the movie are trying to hire. Sounds promising enough if they can get one of these guys. I personally think out of these 4. Either Brad Bird or Phil Johnston would work best. (Heck Phil Johnston has a movie already with Sonic in it, even if it was mostly cameos)

But the idea of this being live-action & CG-i does worry me. As the only good movie that I hear about that combines anything cartoon related with Live action is Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. There's even a Sonic fanfilm where they did a live-action & CG-i thing that got mixed responses. That movie also happened to try to go for a dark and edgy route.

And again, while they can make things look more badass. They shouldn't forget that this is Sonic we're talking about, and make sure they don't try to make us take everything seriously. (Because at it's core, the movie is still going to be about anthropomorphic cartoon animals stopping a fat man from taking over the world. That is not an easy concept to take seriously)

The dark elements worked in Sonic SatAm, so it should work here, speaking of SatAm BRING BACK SALLY!!!!! Sory, SonSal fan

Yeah, make a video game movie, throw in random voice actors unrelated to the game, and expect the movie to be good.

I think they'll get the same voice actors for the other characters, I just think Eggman will be live action

Since this will be both animated and live action, it better not have a lot of explosions or CG effects more than a Michael Bay film

Why Eggman? That's like making Waluigi live action for crying out loud!

okay so i saw this the other day

i don't know why you're all taking this as fact. the source doesn't seem reputable and i think it's probably fake considering they said Brad Bird worked on WALL-E, Toy Story 2, Brave, and Up, and being the Bird semi-fan that i am, i know for a fact that he was not involved in any of those movies as a writer

furthermore, the article says it's been "confirmed" that the movie is in production and gave a list of people who were working on it, which is funny because there's no source

but hey, what do i know

edit: sorry, there's no source because it's "exclusive", because obviously a major source like the trackingrepublic or whatever would get exclusives like this

Because Eggman is more realistic while the others are animals?

So do Waluigi, Timmy Turner, Barnacle Boy, and Metal Mario... you really want them live-action (Timmy Turner as a child, not a post-pubescent kid)?
