Wow, this game has an awesome story. When I think of all the evil things villains have done over the years! Mephiles killing the main character, causing him to turn into a god that screws up space and time! Majora possessing a hurt child, forcing him to send the moon on a collision course with Termina! Team Aqua expanding water! WOW!

No it has a terrible story.

What is today, "Everyone disagree with Frollo" day? Not saying your opinions are wrong or anything, but why does everyone always to contradict my opinion?

dont worry, everyone thinks i have *bleep* taste in everything

so i know how that must feel

but you're completely correct

Pokemon is best at having really detailed gameplay without it being overly complicated and cluttered.

no, pokemon's gameplay IS a convoluted mess, result from the company attempting to please both casual and more serious players. you have stats, which are straightforward, then you get natures and EVs...still a bit understandable, then you have random ass hell IVs with variations from 1 up to 32 which can really enhance or lower the power of your pokemon thrown in together in this blended mess. then you have breeding and it gets even more convoluted. then you have random critical hits and other random things going on.

some aspects of the gameplay take advantage of chance such as the ability super-luck or no-guard so it skillfully goes into your favor, but it's still only a small aspect of this.

Here's text in game if you have that pokemon and talk to a certain person.

“No way! Could that be the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa that you have there with you?” Options: Yes | No

No: “Oh, I was mistaken? Sorry about that…”

Yes: “Whoaaa! I can’t believe it’s true! See, I travel around the world, trying to solve its many mysteries. I’ve been researching supernatural events that have occurred over the last 100 years. One thing I’ve found is that the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa is connected to many of these strange events! I’ve also managed to come across some information about the mysterious power that Hoopa appears to wield. So, without further ado, I’d like to share my findings with you! After all, you’re actually traveling with Hoopa–the very subject of my research!” Options: Its mysterious rings | The secret of its lair | Its deeds and exploits | Nothing

Its mysterious rings: “It’s said that Hoopa can use the power of the three rings it adorns itself with to move objects about as it pleases… That’s not all! I’ve also heard that when Hoopa unleashes its full power, the size of the rings can grow up to multiple miles in length! With such massive rings, apparently it can transport even entire islands!”

The secret of its lair: “It’s said that Hoopa’s lair is overflowing with the objects and treasures it nabbed over the years, claiming them for its own. Rumor has it that there are mountains of gold and silver treasures that it took from ancient kings and wealthy land barons. I hear that Hoopa’s lair is in an oasis in the desert, but no one’s been able to find the place!”

Its deeds and exploits: “There’s a tale about an organization that tried to manipulate Hoopa’s power for their own benefit. After a while, certain objects that belonged to the organization mysteriously began to disappear. Everything from weapons and vehicles to money… It all began to vanish one by one. The organization got scared and decided to hole up inside of their headquarters. Once they did, things stopped disappearing! Just like that! Relieved that it was finally over, the organization finally decided to step outside. It was then that they discovered their headquarters had been transported wholesale to somewhere in the middle of a desert! Terrified of what they had unleashed, the organization promptly disbanded.”

“Whether Hoopa becomes a trustworthy partner or ends up bringing about great misfortune depends entirely on the Trainer. I hope you don’t forget that. I think Hoopa’ll turn out right as rain with you at its side, though! You look like a Trainer who knows how to take care of his Pokémon and treat ‘em right. Well, I hope you end up having lots of fine adventures with Hoopa! Have fun!”

You have hardly any control over those values so ultimately, it's an encouragement to hack the game if you're ever going to seriously compete. Breeding for 31/31/31/31/31/31 IVs, correct nature (usually 2 out of 25), and sometimes correct ability is not feasible, and there are people who slave literally hours doing this. GameFreak is pandering to the noncompetitive players, though, which just piles further convolution and contributes to the incredulity of the world of competitive Pokemon. Just look at Mega Evolutions, who got the Mega Evolutions, and how some Mega Evolutions buff previously crappy or already-powerful Pokemon beyond broken. GameFreak has no care for competitive Pokemon shown by their reckless disregard for balance and caring more about "look at your favorite strong Pokemon got stronger!". Competitive Pokemon has potential, but with what GameFreak is continuing to do, I can't take it seriously. Or they can leave it to hackers to balance the game. But I haven't seen that.

Even in casual terms, Pokemon has quickly lost its appeal with me, as its battle system is too slow-paced, a snorefest, and it continues with common JRPG bullcrap such as random encounters, the aspect of grinding, frequent roadblocks, and stuff like and hax. And they continue pushing out their ass HM moves, generic bad guy storyline, and the tedious battle system. I'm not saying that other JRPGs avoid this stuff, but there should at least be some improvement to this, but GameFreak doesn't do this. Finally, the aspect of "catching them all" is mostly unfeasible, and how they split even the third game in the Black and White generation into two versions makes me question if they really care about their players.

I see Pokemon as the ultimate Nintendo cash cow, exceeding even Mario in terms of cynical rehashing to sucker every dollar from their consumers. It's my opinion though, so please don't take it personally. It's just that I'm sick and tired of Pokemon and I hope it will eventually restart fresh.

For you guys complaining that "expanding water" is a weak ass goal for an evil organization, keep in mind that the actual effect of this is like...flooding the entire planet, drowning every single land creature for the benefit of water creatures and seafarers, as well as decimating every city and town.

Yeah phrasing it as "expanding water" does sound pretty weak but not even thinking about it beyond those two words is also pretty weak yourself. Look at all of the stuff they did to accomplish the task, and what the task even is.

or how about comparing it to "oh lets steal pokemon and sell them in some casino thing" or the good ol "what our plan to steal pokemon and sell them has failed? lets do the exact same thing in another place"

I totally just thought of a for fun/for glory mode in Pokemon what would that even be like

It's still sorta stupid, since the expanding water thing will backfire on other water creatures since freshwater fishes cannot survive on salt water

...I should stop bringing reality to a game where you can catch animals in tiny little capsules and just let creative licenses roam free...

honestly never really thought it was such a weak goal, but rather what was weak was how the fact they didnt take into account of what the negatives would be.

As far as evil goes though, its certainly up there.

Either that or they did take in account all the negatives and was like "fudge the negative consequences"

actually when kyogre floods everything the leader was like "...what have i done?"

something along those lines anyway, regardless he was pretty shocked.

This, bar the fine print.

And also, climate change, ocean acidification, ocean currents' changing and all.

It's not "sorta stupid", it's recklessly stupid.

My point was that it wasn't "weak" or whatever. Of course it's stupid, what the fuck else would it be? Good? Intelligent? Beneficial? If it were not stupid then why is it the focus of preventing in the game? Making the entire planet barren of bodies of water is also recklessly stupid. What evil plan, barring a few examples I'm sure a few of you are gonna go on a google search for just for the sake of proving me wrong, isn't reckless or stupid in some capacity?

well most plots often have stupid goals anyway so lol

although expanding water isnt nearly as dumb as "destroying the entire world because i feel like it"

to be frank, flooding the world with tsunamis would have been so much cooler for evil people

That it's recklessly stupid doesn't really score evil points for me, that's why I pointed it out.
