Personally, I hope Nintendo buys out Megaman and the other iP's just disappear.

Sounds like a p4r gaming article title.

Still, Sony could buy them.

If they buy Capcom, what would happen to Mega Man regarding his Smash Bros appearance?

He'll probably get removed, just as how future Diddy Kong Racing games no longer have Banjo or Conker.

First off, SOny doesn't really have the money to spare to buyout. Secondly, they'd be forced to honor Capcoms contract anyway.

Nintendo has expressed interest in expanding themselves, but are they really that willing to acquire such a fairly large company?

Please please PLEASE let the buyer continue Phoenix Wright

I don't see anything really changing for Capcom other than a transition from multi-platform to single-platform releases, depending on how much stock any one company decides to acquire (I'm basing this on the assumption that the buyer is a video game company).

Don't care who buys them as long as they keep their nose out of their developments.

Having said that, Nintendo seems to be a good fit for them imo.

Also, keep in mind that due to Japanese law, a Japanese company cannot sell itself out to a Non-Japanese Company. So Microsoft has no chance.

Huh. Didn't know things were that bad at Capcom.

I don't see another big publisher buying Capcom, but I could see a company completely unrelated to games purchase significant shares in Capcom in order to break into the market.

Nintendo is in need of some more "adult" IPs. If they bought Capcom, they would own Resident Evil, which would fit that bill.

If they did buy Capcom, would Mega Man no longer be a 3rd party in Smash 4? In addition, it would open the door for more Mega Man characters and maybe some Street Fighter characters appearing in Smash 5.

I read it as "Capcom is going to be bought" more then it being "open to hostile takeover", similar to Disney buying Pixar, Marvel, and LucasFilm. Also, this article:

But yeah, I also hope that Nintendo buys them up, it just feels like a match made in heaven... plus, Nintendo clearly seems to know what to do with Mega Man (and maybe other properties) then Capcom does, if Super Smash Bros. is any indication.

It's good to have a wide variety of IPs, but why "adult" specifically...?

Because a lot of people are skipping out on the Wii U because it's "kiddy". While this is stupid, it's a real thing. Having stuff like Resident Evil could attract the people who want a more "mature" experience. Bayonetta 2 also fits this notion.

probably because there are more than just rated everyone and teen players.

Adding adult/mature players would mean even more money, but thats just my guess.

People have been skipping on Nintendo because it's "kiddy" for a few generations now. Maybe the Wii U will be a good place to start, but once mindsets become ingrained, they become difficult to change. On a side note for me, but I've been skipping on Xbox/Playstation for the opposite reasons, because there are way too much M-rated titles there (plus, no Mario whatsoever).

Guess those people aren't really mature after all.

its just called mature for the age group lol

BTW, someone made this post on another forum:

Before anyone gets too excited, do remember that this doesn't necessarily mean anything will happen. Along with this, it's rare 1st party studios get heavily involved with acquisitions like this anymore. They're apparently also available for auctioning off IPs... basically the most important takeaway from this, though: Capcom's shareholders are saying that the company in its current state is nowhere near as profitable as it could be. Some bittersweet validation for everyone who Capcom has pissed off in the past few years, I suppose.

Onto the fun (and purely speculative) stuff: were they to auction off IPs, I would love to see Nintendo snatch up Megaman, Monster Hunter, and Ace Attorney. Honestly I think they would do it in a heartbeat, because at this point all three are essentially Nintendo exclusives anyhow. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them pick up Resident Evil, because Nintendo always makes a huge deal about RE games being on their consoles. Nintendo basically touted RE4 as one of its crown jewels back in the GC era, and it'd give them a successful Mature franchise.

I'd also really love to see Platinum pick up Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. That would just feel right.

I kind of knew someone would be a wet blanket about Nintendo getting Capcom, for good and bad reasons. It pays to have a realistic view in these kinds of situations. Actually, I think selling off individual properties makes more sense then buying the whole company.
