It will probably be a veteran.
 
What would Duck Hunt Dog even do as a player character? I could see it as an assist, but not a fighter.

Ahem...

Standard B: NES Zapper
Side B: Clay Discs
Up B: Ducks (does no damage)
Down B: Pounce (kind of like how he jumps in the grass, except on his enemies)
Final Smash: Jumps in the bushes that appears behind him, and pretty much Snake's final smash

Taunt 1: The Laugh
Taunt 2: Chases tail
Taunt 3: Holds a duck
 
Not unless it taunts in a horde of Bob-ombs

If I don't see a Falcon Punch tomorrow, I will Falcon Punch Nintendo until they put him in.
 
Although Snake would also be acceptable.
 
One of the comments from the article brings up an interesting point. He mentions that it looks like a silhouette of Ridley can be seen inside the ? box and while I think it's ridiculous, it does kind of look Ridley. Then again, it looks more like a Charizard or Lugia. It would definitely be a great way to start off the Smash pic of the Week, though, if it was a newcomer.

Don't know why they'd be dropping another newcomer considering they dropped 3 announcements two weeks ago, but whatever.
 
It's not a silhouette of Ridley. It's a random pattern on the ? due to the quality of the image and the uneven paper. This shadow is just the result of us humans seeing patterns in things that aren't really there.
