Debate remaining veterans

Magikrazy

Donkey Kong
In this thread, we will debate the chances of the veterans not yet revealed. I will keep a list of all the arguments made for and against the veterans returning.
Ness

Jigglypuff

Ice Climbers

Mewtwo

Mr. Game & Watch

Dr. Mario

Ganondorf

Falco

Young Link

Pichu

Roy

Wario

Meta Knight

Lucas

Ivysaur

Squirtle

R.O.B.

Wolf

Snake

Ness
Jigglypuff
Meta Knight
Wario

Done.

I really really hope Jigglypuff comes back. I always loved playing as the pink ball, even if she wasn't very good in Brawl.

I think it's likely she'll come back, seeing as how she's been in every other game before it. They wouldn't break tradition like that! Some people say it's unlikely since then there would be a whole wopping five Pokemon reps, but there's already five Mario reps, so I don't see the big deal.

I agree.

There is no reason not to include Ness and Jigglypuff, might it be because they were in the original game or just because Earthbound and Pokemon have a large enough fanbase to serve their respective number of reps (2 and 5).

Meta Knight because Sakurai likes to show a huge Bias towards his own games (see kid icarus: uprising). Also the Halberd is a stage already.

And Wario because there's already an Ashley assist trophy, and because the Wario Ware series is big enough already to have their own rep + Wario doesn't count towards the Mario series rep counter anymore.

i'm pretty sure ice climbers will be back, considering that sakurai talked about trying to implement them and we've already seen the polar bear in smash run

i also doubt falco's getting cut (wolf probably has more chance of getting cut, but is still likely)

ganondorf and mr game and watch are probably going to be back as well

Jigglypuff will probably get cut. It just won't make sense to leave the starter triangle incomplete and it also wouldn't make sense to give Pokemon the most reps.

Ness and Jiggs are definitely back in. They're long time veterans and they have no reason to be cut.

Falco was one of the few clones to survive the transition from Melee to Brawl, I think that speaks volumes. Not to mentioned he was changed to a semi-clone, but he is also very popular among the competitive community. Seeing as how Nintendo is catering a bit more to that side (For Glory Mode, GameCube controllers), it would make sense.

Ganondorf is the main Zelda villain. No way he's gone. Whether he gets a new moveset is yet to be seen.

Ice Climbers have already been mentioned by Sakurai. He said they were having trouble implementing them, but that was a while ago and they have had plenty of time to work out the kinks. Rosalina also pretty much debunks that theory. Besides, if the GameCube could handle four ICs on screen, I'm sure the 3DS can.

Mr. Game and Watch is staying as well. No reason to cut him. He was shown in the Pac-Man trailer as well as the Amiibo segment. He'll likely be a secret fighter.

Meta Knight is definitely coming back. His stage Halberd has already been shown, he's from Sakurai's own series Kirby, and he's very popular. Just expect him to be nerfed.

Wario will also be coming back. Ashely was already shown as an assist and Waluigi was even listed under the Wario series. No way he's getting cut.

That just leaves Lucas, Wolf, R.O.B, Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake. Those last three are likely getting the boot.

So that brings is to Lucas, Wolf, and R.O.B. I feel like these three could really go either. I feel like two out of these three will be back. ROB I feel has the strongest chance. That narrows it down to just Lucas and Wolf. Honestly, I feel one of them will be back and the other will be cut. Whenever that is remains to be seen.

Yea, it totally makes sense to cut one of the Original 12 to complete a triangle that has appeared in one game (and even then it only took up one roster spot). Besides, Pokémon and Mario both have legitimate arguements to be considered the most popular Nintendo series. It would make perfect sense for Pokémon and Mario to tie for most number of reps. Pokémon could easily get more due to that series having a more diverse cast of characters.

I don't see Jigglypuff coming back unless Mario gets another Newcomer (probably a clone Daisy).

In my opinion, it would make sense for Pokemon to have six characters, seeing as how you can have a team of six pokemon. We have four right now. The fifth should definitely be Jigglypuff. As for number six, only Mewtwo deserves that spot.

Then we should have 7 Pokemon because Sceptile deserves a slot and it wouldn't make any sense to exclude him. Mewtwo won't be getting in over Sceptile. Also Generation 1 is repped perfectly fine right now. Adding Jigglypuff or Mewtwo will mess it up. One of my biggest complaints with the Pokemon lineup with Melee/Brawl was too much Gen 1.

Mewtwo already has been playable in Smash before and was heavily considered for Brawl. He was only cut due to time constraints. It's clear there's interest in him. Not to mention Mewtwo has a much larger fanbase than Sceptile will ever hope to have. After Ridley, Mewtwo is the most requested Smash character. Mewtwo was also one of the poster boys for mega evolution, being the first one revealed. Not only that, he has two Megas.

Furthermore, Sakurai mentioned Mewtwo at that X and Y event back in 2013. There was also the Greninja trailer where the resemblance to Mewtwo was uncanny.

Here's what I'm thinking

Returning whether we like them or not (90-100%): Ness, Jigglypuff, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game and Watch, Ganondorf (In some form even if it's not the same as he was in Melee and Brawl), Falco, Wario, Meta Knight

Likely (60-80%): Mewtwo, ROB

Could go either way (50%): Lucas, Wolf

Less then likely (20-40%): Snake

Not gonna happen (0-10%): Dr. Mario, Young Link, Pichu, Roy, Ivysaur, Squirtle

Those are pretty much my exact thoughts. Dr. Mario at least has the possibility of being a costume.

Why are you of all people saying Daisy would be a clone?

You've given her a unique moveset before.

Her being a clone isn't my issue with her.

And by the way, you invented the triangle in your head.

You're the only one who cares about it.

Nintendo can put in whoever they want. They don't have to abide by some shape one person made up.

I'm saying a clone Daisy because of the fact that Nintendo is probably too lazy to make her unique even though she has what it takes.

You can not shut up over Sceptile right now, can you?

In Melee, that's because there was only two generations back then. Also, Mewtwo is way more popular than Sceptile, and for good reason. He will get in over Sceptile. DEAL WITH IT.
