"I heard you have a dragon problem?" (Chapter 50 / 50) It is done!

As your most loyal minion, would I get a super-cool butler outfit?

...that was terrible, I'm sorry.

I was thinking more like, Darth Vader. But if you want some sort of butler getup, I guess that'd be okay, as long as it's functional as well as eloquent.

Re: "I heard you have a dragon problem?"

So anyway, in case anyone's interested, here's the original Edowalk image before I GIFified it (although I did made the writing green from the original red for contrast).

Timetoduel3_x537x10.png

I also drew this other version, which is more like my usual sketchy style, whereas the other version was more filled in to emulate Edo's polished art a bit more. I debated on which one to use for a bit, but decided that between the overlayed writing and the effects from the GIF, the first version was the one to go with. But I sorta like this one too, and figured, hey I have it, might as well share it:

Timetoduel3_xx537x10.png

And finally (for now), here's some sketches I drew at work (on a couple old envelopes) as prep for the final image(s). As you can see in a couple of them, and in the second image above, I toyed with the idea of giving Edowalk a tail, but decided against having it visible since it'd mess with the cape, which I wanted draped normally down the back like Edowak. Hence there's no spiked shell either, in any of the sketches or final products.

Timetoduel3_xxx537x10.png

I've got lots of other unused images and concept work lying around. Most of the time, when I screw up a picture or was just practising or messing around, or changed my mind about what I wanted to draw, I just toss the material, but some of the images are still nice in their own right (imo) even if they're not usable for one reason or another, so I hung onto them. Then I scanned them in the other day cuz I was bored, and might post some more if you guys are interested.

Re: "I heard you have a dragon problem?"

The pair of you are good artists, so I'm always open to seeing more artwork from you two.

Re: "I heard you have a dragon problem?"

D'aww, thanks! ^_^

Anyway, first up, is some concept art I did of 876 when I was debating whether to use his human torso avatar or a less weird pure Yoshi avatar. I decided quickly that a unique and bizarre design would be a lot more fun:

Timetoduel3_x79.png

This one is my original eye closeup from this set of panels, but I rejected it for being distractingly unlike the rest of the art up until that point:

Timetoduel3_x28.png

This one's a collage of all the panels I did of me jumping out to try and shoot someone. Originally, for the first shooting scene, I did a sketch (top right), and then tried a "polished" version (top left; as you can see, the belly and back got screwed up and need replacing), but ended up liking the original sketch better and usd that. Then, when it was time to do a callback to the scene, I tried redrawing it all nice again, using my updated art style (bottom right), but once again, thought it'd look better with the original sketch. So I added the notch in the horn and the black eye, changed the armband to a bandaid and added a lot more bloody red shading:

Timetoduel3_x82x325.png

And finally for tonight, here's a copy of probably my messiest raw scan (just for fun). I had forgotten Edowak had skulls at first, and while I tried to sketch them in with the silver marker (the only thing that will write over black), it looked like crap so I just redrew those parts separately and spliced them together on the computer, as well as the cape bits and of course, the writing, which is so haphazardly chopped apart here, it actually reminds me a bit of SBaHJ at times, but with the changes just floating around rather than being connected to the text with ^ arrows or whatever (most of the time).

The other version of me is adorable :-*

The rest of the stuff is also pretty good, except that accidental scan

I agree.

Ah photoshop, it turns something like that scan to a nice comic panel.
I really like these doodles and drawings!

Re: "I heard you have a dragon problem?"

Yeah, the other 876 is pretty adorbz ^.^

One thing the comic's certainly done is improve my editing skillz. Earlier on, I tried to do much more by hand, but as time went on, I started using the computer to do more and more. It's actually ridiculous how much perfectly good art I chucked in the early days. Like this first one. I couldn't figure out what sort of dotted path I wanted, and after enough tries, I just started fresh for some reason, even though the Golem himself was perfectly fine, and looks almost the same as the final version. Past me was silly...

Timetoduel3_x80.png

A slightly less silly example is this, wherein I screwed up early on in drawing me, and simply used the paper as practice for the final piece, and didn't bother saving the perfectly usable shot of 876 (although the final version is a bit better):

Timetoduel3_x186.png

This one is practice for this shot:

Timetoduel3_x183.png

And some more work-in-progress hand-drawing for this panel (hands and fire are hard):

Timetoduel3_x42.png

And finally, I was initially going for a shot like this (Haruko from FLCL), to indicate Starlow feeling extra psycho at the end of Chapter 40. It was not to be. First I screwed up the eyes and tried to redo them in the space around her for photoshopping in, but I was never completely satisfied by any of the many attempts, and then I realized I had used the wrong shade of orange to colour her in, and filling in the white gaps with the proper shade didn't look any better, so I gave up and did something else entirely. Still kinda a kinda fun pic, tho:

I don't know why, but I find that panel very funny.

Re: "I heard you have a dragon problem?"

Personally, I've taken much enjoyment out of the Golem's punctuation - he tells it like it is, and the floor being covered with many meandering paths, some of them to and from nowhere, is pretty silly and confusing, as he has observed.

I miss that Golem.

Timetoduel3_xx80.png

Anyway, I rejected this first attempt at this scene because the face is too round: I'm more angular and streamlined:

Timetoduel3_x215.png

After I screwed up the first attempt at the (first) headshot, I just used the sheet to practice getting the right limb angles and proportions and things. Stick and ball diagrams never stop being useful:

Timetoduel3_x82.png

Here's the original Bop image I drew for Ghost Jam's narrative. I reused Bop himself, but had to redo the background entirely, having decided that it'd be too much trouble to splice the original one with some new surroundings (which is shown here, with tape, before the theoretical computer work would have patched up the seams):

Timetoduel3_x522x14.png

Not quite sure why exactly I rejected this start on this panel; my guess is that the flame's too big:

Timetoduel3_x237.png

Why this one was redone is more obvious. I wanted it to be clear that Marowak was not going to land on the roof, but it's hard to make depth clear in images and this first attempt did not succeed at all, so I flipped it around to show him having already past the roof in the final version. There were other problems in the first attempt: the fire looks shitty, I was indecisive about what colour the landing should be, etc. In the end, while having to redo it was a pain, it was worth it:

Looks into the creative process are always interesting.

This took... much longer than I anticipated. I apologize for that.

I was about to say the same thing.

The artwork and new addition of gifs is really turning this into something totally amazing, Edo.

3DS please, learn to load images.
basically mario is invincible, breaks walkazo's sword, edo tells marowak to use the magic he learned, I think marowak attempts to heal walkazo (I have to double-check), and mario kills edo

fuck that made me even sadder

You can read it anyways.

It's ok, with the current rate and size of updates, it'll probably still be a month or so until the last chapter goes up.
