@3DP, you should get one of those turtles that projects light images. It might help.

From what I remember, Brawl was rated T because of the Wario Waft
That doesn't seem like a reason to rate it T to me. Wario had a fart attack in Mario Striker Charged, but it was rated E10+.

Have you never played Subspace Emissary??

Master Hand was bleeding after being unhooked by Tabuu. Also the fact of Fighting and beating up Females may be another cause but I don't know since the 3DS version is E10+

Also 3dp, the violence in Mario Party is slapstick.
My tip to you: never watch a silent film.

02 bled. Kirby 64 was still rated E.

Maybe it was rated T due to drugs being mentioned (AKA Onett).

Are you referring to the sign that says "Drug Store"?

Do you know what a drug store is?
Yes. I am fully aware of what a drug store is. I'm just pointing out that the ESRB might just be very sensitive. They probably rated Mario & Luigi: Dream Team E10+ just because of Starlow being called nude (even though she is one of the many Mario characters that doesn't wear clothes).

I was always confused as to why they rated Dream Team E10+ rather than Partners in Time. Dream Team is this funny lighthearted game and Partners in Time is all about death and destruction.
Partners in Time will always be my favourite...

...Nobody dies in Mario Party. If anything, it's crude humor.
Some people get Nightmares from it.
How...

How could anyone possibly get a nightmare from those things?
Three words.
Joy Stick Twirling.

my poor palm :'[

Anywho I'm gonna echo the sentiment that the ESRB rating doesn't matter.

The 3DS version is E10+, but doesn't mean the Wii U version will be.

irdgaf about the rating as long it's not M

Or EC for Early Childhood.

Wouldn't want a Smash Bros. game where we're not even allowed to fight with any character :P

But it would be weird having two versions of the same game with a different rating.

You guys have luck with the ESRB.

Look at the german rating system:

We have ages 0, 6, 12, 16 and 18.

Mario games usually get a 6, rarely a 0 (the paper mario games and mario kart games all have 0), and even more rarely a 12 (Strikers, Strikers charged, melee and brawl).

While that is completely fine (it's the mario series after all), let's look at some other games:

Metroid Prime 3 and the trilogy got 16.

Empire Earth 3 (an RTS, which is kinda bloody but not TOO bad (look it up)), got an 18 while its PEGI 12.

What's even worse (or better(?)) though, is that a whole lot of 18 games get banned (or at least so that youre effectively permitted to advertise for those games which prevents most retailers from even having them in their stores.), or heavily censored for the german (or sometimes the whole european) market (examples are Half-Life and Resident Evil 4 (the only version you can buy here is the wii port, which is cut by default if i'm not mistaken)).

By the way: Games on that are released on Download Only (aka Steam) only, per law, do not need to be rated. That means that people can publish all their banned games as long as they stay steam-only (See COD4: Modern Warfare which is banned but still availiable on Steam.)

Not related to age restrictions, but the best thing of all is: All games that contain anything related to Nazis are banned by default.

Which includes stuff like Wolfenstein (of course), and Nazi Zombies, but even South Park: The Stick of Truth, which received a special german version without the Swastikas later (look it up, its really funny.)

The idea behind the whole thing is that german laws restrict the use of Nazi material (be it swastikas, or certain greetings) in the public. However, exceptions are made for forms of art, which includes paintings, movies, BUT NOT GAMES.

So yeah, I know that age restrictions and/or the banning of video games totally arent bad (because there are people who get nightmares after all) but i think the way they're handled here might be a LITTLE strict.

EDIT: This about sums it up.

I've heared its even worse in australia but i don't live there so no idea.

But okay, back to topic.

I don't entirely know but I did happen to have a Nightmare related to Bowser Minigames in Mario Party 4 like 4 times so far this year.

You should go visit a therapist.

I already do for unrelated reasons. When I asked about that, they said that there was nothing they could do about it.

I've heard the German system is a pile of *bleep* too. I think for a while, River Raid was banned over there. Seriously.

Also, MP3 was probably for the "animated blood" section in the Game Over screen, which looks more like someone spilled their Kool-Aid then anything actually violent.

Mario Party 3 has nothing like that. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Would I be talking about the game given a 0 or a 6 rating, 3D? Metroid Prime 3.

Note that a ban "expires" after 20 years, aka the publisher can resubmit the game to the USK, and if it gets through it gets unbanned.

For example, Doom got reclassified as 16 in 2012. It was banned before.

Thinking about it actually, there are a few cases where the USK is more tolerant than the PEGI and ESRB.

All parts of Assassin's Creed are rated 16, which they're both M and PEGI 18.

Back to the Future: The Game (Telltale) is PEGI 16 and USK 12.

Oblivion is 12 (which I really can't understand because that game is really violent and it got the same rating as mario strikers).

and Other M is 12 instead of Pegi 16, which would be fine either way honestly.

So yeah, their ratings are bullshit.

And before going back to topic, an addon for Two Worlds 2 i saw in a local warehouse got a 12 rating while the actual game is 16.
