Out of the ones you played of course.

Of course, Super Paper Mario and any other hybrids do NOT count. You know what I'm talking about when I mean this. Just rank the ones out of the main Mario series (yuck that left a terrible taste in my mouth). This means that you shouldn't include Yoshi's Island either.

2D platformers

Super Mario Advance 4 (SMB3)<Super Mario Advance 2 (SMW)<New Super Mario Bros.<Super Mario Advance (SMB2)<New Super Mario Bros. Wii<New Super Mario Bros. U

Ok, before you kill me for rating the New Super Mario Bros. games higher than the classics, consider this: I've played the New Super Mario Bros. games first because the classic Mario platformers did not interest me the slightest at the time. My first consoles were the N64 and Super Nintendo, and Super Mario World was the only game I had available and that didn't interest me as much as Super Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Kart 64. I had a twin to play with and I was too scared to play single player games on my own, and I had little incentive to play them as they aren't as fun when one person has to sit out (keep in mind I'm also at a very young age too). New Super Mario Bros. for the DS was one of my first tastes of platformers and I really liked it. After playing Super Mario Advance 4, I felt its mechanics were outdated. I enjoyed Super Mario Advance 2 more than I enjoyed Super Mario Advance 4 because SMW is simply a more fun game than Super Mario Bros. 3. However, I had the most fun playing Super Mario Bros. 2 out of the classic Mario platformers, simply because the variety of the different characters is an appealing aspect for me. Finally, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U had the coveted multiplayer aspect, which is the sole reason they're on top of this list, with New Super Mario Bros. U having the best levels out of these.

3D platformers
Super Mario Galaxy 2<Super Mario 64<Super Mario 3D Land<Super Mario Galaxy<Super Mario 3D World<Super Mario 64 DS

Remember when I said I like playing as a variety of characters? That's why Super Mario 64 DS ranks much higher than Super Mario 64. I love Super Mario 3D World for its level design and stuff but its bogged down by irritating gameplay aspects such as shared lives, pick up button being the same as the attack button, and Champion's Road in general. Super Mario 64 DS also has the advantage of hunting down every Goomba in the map and exploration, which I prefer. Super Mario 64 just felt...outdated and its controls felt wonky, which is weird because most people find 64 DS to have worse controls than 64. Super Mario 3D Land is fun, but it's not a particularly memorable game. Super Mario Galaxy is an excellent game but I feel it's not as good as 3D World and 64 DS and even I think it gets way too much praise.

The poop of the group (to me) is Super Mario Galaxy 2. Ugh I hate this game. If you know me well, I'm gonna express it again: I expected it to be a much different ground-breaking game as Super Mario Galaxy. Something outstanding. Not here. All I got was basically the exact same thing with different levels and rebarfed back at me. There's basically NO reason for me to be playing Galaxy 2 when I could be playing the far more superior Galaxy.

3D Platformers:

Ones I've heavily played but not beaten are in Green while Ones I've not played are in Red and ones I've lightly played are in Yellow while ones I've heavily played and beaten are in Blue.

Super Mario 64 DS > Super Mario Galaxy 2 > Super Mario Galaxy 1 > Super Mario Sunshine > Super Mario 64 > Super Mario 3D World > Super Mario 3D Land

2D Platformers:

Super Mario Bros. 2<New Super Mario Bros. Wii<New Super Mario Bros. U<Super Mario Bros. 3<Super Mario Bros.<New Super Mario Bros.<New Super Mario Bros. 2

Some of these choices were pretty painful to put one over the other.

3D Platformers:

Super Mario 3D Land<Super Mario 3D World<Super Mario 64<Super Mario Galaxy 2<Super Mario 64 DS<Super Mario Galaxy

The 64s and Galaxy 2 are all really close. Galaxy 1 is actually my favorite video game period.

Also, @3D Player, you're only supposed to rank the ones you've played.

EDIT: Aaand I put one I wasn't supposed too.

2D platformers:

SMW > SMB > SMB3 > SMB2 > SMB:TLL > NSMB + NSMBU > NSMBW + NSMB2

3D platformers:

SM64 > SM3DW > SMG > SM64DS > SMG2 > SM3DL

I haven't played Super Mario Sunshine, so that's why I don't include it.

What's wrong with SMG2? It is a mind blowing masterpiece. It has some more action in it and Yoshi makes it awesome. It adds more to the fun factor and there were a lot of beautiful things in it like the ending and all that stuff. Why be so biased with a No#1 kick ass mind blowing masterpiece? I mean c'mon if you wanted some more action you got it. I mean c'mon if Sunshine received a sequel called Sunshine 2 and it had more content and everyone else found it to be a no#1 badass sequel to Sunshine and you just had so much bias towards it. How would you feel if some people hated Sunshine 2 which you may have loved? I mean appreciate Galaxy 2 for what it is and maybe Nintendo may put out SMG3 which will be even more badass than both Galaxy 1 and 2. How dare you insult gaming's beautiful platforming masterpiece known to existance in mankind?

I love SMG2 but I can find so many things wrong with that post. Comments are in italics.

You realize this entire post is being biased towards SMG2? Nobody likes a hypocrite. I mean c'mon if you wanted some more action you got it. Again, what the hell made it have more action? I mean c'mon if Sunshine received a sequel called Sunshine 2 and it had more content and everyone else found it to be a no#1 badass sequel to Sunshine and you just had so much bias towards it. How would you feel if some people hated Sunshine 2 which you may have loved? You should accept that people have opinions. Having Yoshi and the other awesome power ups is what made it have more action and the intense boss fights were kind of action oriented per. I think SMG2 just has that sweet soft hearted spot in the series and some parts of it may put some tears in some people's eyes and it is such a beautiful masterpiece in gaming's existence that people don't even realize how beautiful it is and it isn't something mediocre with some gripes like how Sunshine was. Sunshine does have a mediocre reputation I must say. It is a mediocre 3D Mario game from what I have seen.

I don't think this brought anyone into tears. Now Galaxy 1 I can maybe from the storybook or that ending. But Galaxy 2 just felt like a SM3DL but better. But SMS wasn't a bad game. It's my 3rd favorite 3D platformer and I don't mind the terrible voice acting. It's called Nintendo trying new things.

You mean Sunshine's voice acting was as bad like Metroid Other M's. I mean sure Sunshine and Other M prove why Nintendo shouldn't have included voice acting in the first place. I mean sure there are the Star Fox games like Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault. I mean I enjoyed SFA's VA a lot. I mean Nintendo repeated their mistake with Other M after they had learned their lesson with Sunshine.

Nintendo did try something new with Sunshine but the voice acting part wasn't new. The idea was reused from Hotel Mario.

I kinda agree with you here I think SMG2 just has that sweet soft hearted spot in the series No, that was definitely Galaxy 1 and some parts of it may put some tears in some people's eyes Again, that's more Galaxy 1's thing and it is such a beautiful masterpiece in gaming's existence that people don't even realize how beautiful it is and it isn't something mediocre with some gripes like how Sunshine was. Keep in mind that I still do like Galaxy 2, but it is definitely inferior to the original.

I was trying to say that many people hated the voice acting in Sunshine. I was not bothered by it but yea... Hotel Mario...

Also, Pwwnd, may I ask why you always compare Mario games to completely different games?

What makes Galaxy 2 inferior to Galaxy 1? It was the excellence of Nintendo's engineering of how good a game could be and the visuals were so spectacular than the first Galaxy. What more could you ask for? It was a well crafted masterpiece of game ever created and it was high of it's intelligence over it's predecessor. It doesn't look inferior to me. I mean the level design was so well crafted that it almost made me feel good. It was so stunning to me that I couldn't believe a game in my life would have so much excellence in it. The game is so beautiful that I am almost speechless and can't praise the game any further. I mean the game looks like it may have been made in heaven and it has that heavenly vibe to me that I can't comprehend for a minute or so.

It's just a habit of mines that I can't stop doing.

I know how very little SMG2 innovated but at least it had some kick ass levels and oh man it was the supreme deluxe Mario game ever created. I'd bet heaven would offer a game so good to match SMG2's cleverness. It is definitely superior than anything out there and the experience of Super Mario Galaxy 2 was completely out of this world than Galaxy 1. I hope Galaxy 3 would offer something even more out of this world than Galaxy 2.
