An HD remake (and improvement) of Hotel Mario

It's a fucking impossibility just like Sunshine 2.

no

those fuckin hilarious cutscenes must never be ruined

Hotel Mario so bad that the AVGN proves that it is even bad for it to receive a remake.

Hey, Pwwnd, I know you love bringing up the Angry Video Game Nerd at every single possible opportunity, but he's not a good source.

Besides, AVGN said Hotel Mario wasn't a bad game, just a mediocre one

get your facts straight

even exaggerated characters can give legit criticism though. you see jontron and nostalgia critic do it all the time

I doubt this will happen. It was a godawful game as it is, and I don't want a godawful game in HD.
I put the word "Improvement" in parenthesis, meaning not just HD graphics but better gameplay

I find it strange when people say things like "Wouldn't it be so much better if they remade [bad game], but with better graphics and different gameplay".

With games like Mario, which are almost 100% gameplay, that would functionally be a different game alltogether.

So what this is essentially saying is: "Wouldn't Hotel Mario be better if it wasn't Hotel Mario?"

From what I understand, Hotel Mario's mediocrity comes from the fact that it was on the CDI and thus had many limitations. If it was remade for the Wii U with better controls, better physics, better cutscenes, etc I doubt it would be as bad as people made it out to be. It was bad because of the limitations of its system and the fact that it tried and failed to be way ahead of its time. In this day and age a Hotel Mario 2 or remake for the Wii U would be much better I'm sure, if Nintendo themselves worked on it instead of Phillips or whoever made the original.

Even though the original cutscenes will always be classics, I'd like to see them remade just to see what they were intended to be in the first place (meaning not laughably bad).

Sure but before that they need to make an HD remastered compilation of Cheetahmen 1 + 2.

Uh what? The CD-i is obviously more powerful than, say, an NES, yet Super Mario Bros. 3 on a weaker console is still a far better game than Hotel Mario. Power is NOT an excuse for crappy games.

Here is another good example, the Sega Saturn. It's launch line up consisted of 2D and 2.5D games and barely any 3D games. Although Clockwork Night was decently good but it looks rather unpolished. Sure the Saturn was powerful as hell than the PS1 but atleast we good the best game to showcase the Saturn's genius programming,Virtua Fighter 2. The Saturn was as powerful as it was for the time. Sure the N64 outpowered the Saturn but atleast there were awesome games on the N64. The Saturn was the system that was a pain in the ass to program for and it fucking pissed off a lot of people. Only those that were really good with it would never get pissed off.

This is true, but unfortunately it still happens a lot today. Hardware limitations often get in the way of achieving certain design goals, and as a result some compromises may lead to the end product being a trashy game. For instance, look at a lot of Wii ports of games intended for 360/PS3/PC.

The best way to address it is to be fully aware of your hardware's limitations before you begin designing so that you don't find yourself having to edit or scrap things during production because you simply can't achieve them. Sadly, you can't really know these limitations without getting the hardware and trying to make stuff on it.

Part of the reason why SMB3 is so good is because Nintendo knew the limitations of the NES hardware and could design around it. This knowledge allowed them to craft the game without needing to compromise a lot of things they originally planned for, leading to the final product feeling polished and complete.

Having said this, I don't think the hardware was the downfall of Hotel Mario; the game just didn't spend enough time in production, leaving all the aspects of the game pretty rushed. Despite this, it does have some technical redeeming factors, such as it being one of the earliest console games to have full motion video. So yeah, credit where it's due, I guess.

I doubt it. Nintendo has said that Hotel Mario isn't canon to the Mario Universe.

Hotel Mario is no longer official as it is considered a smelly rotten pile of unofficial dog turds by the big N.

Because a strong continuity is such a vital part of the Mario series.

But it's safe to pretend that it exists in another dimension of hell within the Mario series.
