Why is Mario weaker without his hat?

What makes it special?

Mario hates sunlight.

Where does his new "special" one come from if it's with Master Luma?

He infiltrated and stole that hat back

What does the M stand for anyway?

One of video gaming's biggest questions

Maybe it has to do with his confidence, if he does not have it on his hat, he thinks he is not special and he gets emotionaly weakened. Don't know.

It stands for Motherfucker!
All yall know that, biatch!

I think the hat protects his head from the sun.

On a side note, I permanently lost the hat in 64 after fooling around in Snowman's Land.

Without his hat, he's just another hatless guy, losing life in the sun.

A few things.

After an extensive research at Harvard, which required a $30,000 grant from NASA, I concluded that the M in Mario's hat stands for 42.

The reason Mario takes more damage without his hat is that his hat generates an invisible, odorless, tasteless protective force field. His hair also does this too, but not as strongly. The force fields are also vulnerable to contact with other certain entities, which the designers of the game have categorized. These two factors explain why Mario can walk inside a volcano or in places like Letha Lava Land (you would burn and be subject to intense UV radiation), but a Goomba touching him would hurt.

42. Of course! It all makes sense now!

You know the Toad at the front door? He stole it from you.
I wish he would give it back like he does in the DS version.
