What happened?

Who bought him and why?
 
Bowser got him and let him out the same time E.Gadd also gave jr the brush.

E.Gadd is a little absent minded or had never heard of them at the time.

Bowser wanted him as his minion again and King Boo went along with it till he got his new crown, then his desire for revenge crept in.
 
Here's a better question: why did Mario even get trapped again

probably Mario saw King Boo flying after being released and went after him but end up getting trapped.
 
It's kinda explained in Dark Moon. E. Gadd says he sold the painting at a garage sale. But how he got out after that was a mystery. Maybe the buyers house was haunted and the Boos set him free?

Why he would even do that is beyond me.
 
I am hoping that Waluigi is behind this, he needs to appear. Maybe King Boo could still speak and manipulated Waluigi into freeing him.
