Nintendo Direct Thread (Do NOT post here unless one is announced)

i don't think a new strikers announcement is likely considering that next level games is probably working on luigi's mansion 3

The Direct, I felt, was good at the very least, because there are no ports of games from previous systems (remasters like Spyro are good, though). The only disappointing thing to me is that the new Gym Leader specialises in Water, because I want to see a Pokemon game without a Water specialised area. Surely it's not impossible to do that!

Thank you for reading.

Good. They need a break.

I was kinda sad we didn't get a new Paper mario, but since we got Banjo, now I can die a happy man

Really? Throw remakes out of the question and we haven't gotten a new Mario RPG since 2016. No signs of any even being in development, either.

As for Kirby...wasn't expecting a mainline one, considering Star Allies DLC just finished in November, but I was hoping for a spinoff like Air Ride 2, Tilt 'n' Tumble 2, or something entirely new.

Remakes or not, we've been getting them almost yearly for the last 3 years. Give the damn series a break for a bit.

And Kirby needs a break too, it's games are starting to feel too samey.

I think this direct was pretty good, while there was a lot of stuff I didn't care much about; there was a lot of stuff.
Starting with DQ hero was a good idea, if only because it would make an ending reveal better. I don't care about DQ and that kind of feels like a Japan pick, while Banjo feels more like a west pick. Way more excited for Banjo even though my only experience with it is playing it a little bit as a kid, I know how much people wanted him and he looks fantastic.

Luigi's Mansion 3 looks good, looking forward to playing that one. I forgot if it gave a release date, multiplayer will be fun and that's coming from someone who avoids multiplayer most of the time. Astral Chain still looks fucking sick, I'm surprised at how excited I am for it. August release date? I'm torqued. Nice to see BotW sequel in the works.

As for everything else; lightning round. Link's Awakening looks cute, Witcher is a nice addition, FE doesn't actually look terrible but I bet they didn't show the in-game stuff for a reason lol, No More Heroes 3 was a good reveal and I should really play the others, Mech game I'm on the fence about but they did do a beta where they asked for feedback so they are sincerely trying to make a good game from this, cute girl gym leader for twitter to shit art out for, Cadence of Hyrule actually looks nice, if they were going to put effort into a Mario+Sonic Olympics game it would be this one so I'm interested, and finally Animal Crossing exists which I know people are looking forward to.

I don't care about things that I didn't mention, there was a lot there.
Surprised they didn't cover Super Mario Maker 2 much but I guess that was what the invitational was for.

Look, I respect your opinion on the frequency of Mario RPGs, but I don't seem to get your point with Kirby. Even if the mainline games feel a bit samey, I already mentioned I was talking about the spinoffs, and being Nintendo's most experimental IP by a long shot, I'd be surprised if anyone called Kirby's spinoffs "samey". Barring remakes, sub-game expansions, and Rainbow Curse, no Kirby spinoff has ever felt anything like another, and even Rainbow Curse had enough new ideas to separate it from Canvas Curse and call it its own thing. I'm getting the feeling that you haven't really played any Kirby spinoffs at all.

Rant over.

I missed it, crud.

BOTW 2? I'm leery about that, given how much finding those butt-ugly Koroks in the original burned me out. I've recently been trying to finish 100%ing that dang thing.

Though one obvious improvement that could be made over the original is more enemy variety. BotW's enemies were "the ones people know about, those OP lion-taurs that occasionally appeared since the first game, bomb-less Hinoxes, some dumb rock things, some dumb robot things, some awesome sand fish thing, and Team Rocket except ninjas." To wit, the first Zelda game had more enemy variety than BotW did, counting all strength/element recolors as the same enemy.

Still, if Banjo's getting in Smash, they've won me over for this year. Again.

And regarding the Kirby thing, I played no Kirby games released after Epic Yarn yet before Star Allies, though I wanted to (and played a lot of the earliest games in the franchise). Air Ride had Kirby walking around in 3D, don't see why a platforming adventure can't have that too.

The YouTube chat was disgusting. Literally no one was happy. They were all complaining about everything that got revealed, and whining with their demands of what they wanted, and just being toxic in general.
I retreated to a reaction stream instead.

I wonder what the hide chat button is for?

OMG BOTW 2 LETS GO!

Let's. Fucking. Go.

This was the highlight for me. Screw Banjo. Screw Luigi's Mansion. Screw Three Houses, THIS, is the real deal.

This was a good direct. It wasn't amazing, but I'm satisfied. I'd say it was better than E3 2018, but certainly not as good as E3 2017.

- Both rumors about Smash characters turned out to be true! I'm not personally too excited about The Hero, but it makes sense to represent Dragon Quest especially because of its popularity in Japan, so it wasn't a bad choice. I'm more excited about Banjo. I'm still kind of amazed they managed to get him from Rare/Microsoft, and it's especially interesting because it was Nintendo who chose him rather than Sakurai, meaning that Nintendo listened to the fans. Overall, the DLC is looking pretty good, though it will probably only be 3rd party characters. Fingers crossed for Rayman being one of the last two characters!

- Nintendo did as expected and showed off the three 2019 games that we needed more info on: Luigi's Mansion 3, Animal Crossing, and Link's Awakening. Luigi's Mansion looks pretty good, though I'm kind of surprised that they didn't have a release date, especially when AC does even though it's coming next year. We'll just have to trust that LM3 really comes out this year. AC getting delayed to March isn't too surprising; I just hope the fans don't get in an uproar over it. Lastly, Link's Awakening is coming out in a timely manner which is nice. The dungeon builder thing looks pretty cool; nowhere near Mario Maker levels but still a neat addition. Reminds me of those scrapped plans from Zelda 1. Speaking of which...

- BREATH OF THE WILD 2!!!!! That was definitely the most exciting reveal for me. People discussed this along with SMO2. I thought SMO2 was more likely, but here we are with BOTW2 and no SMO2. Honestly though, this is more exciting for me than SMO2 would be. Pulling a Majora's Mask by making a sequel with the same engine is a great move on Nintendo's part. It seems like Zelda's gonna be around a lot during this adventure... I'm thinking she might actually be playable in two-player. Two-player was an idea that they had early in BOTW's development but did not use, so it would make sense to reuse the idea in the sequel just like Majora's Mask used the scrapped mask ideas from Ocarina of Time. Speaking of Zelda, she's got short hair now, and that's cute. I'll look forward to the fanart... Another huge thing from the trailer was the apparent RETURN OF GANONDORF. He's a skeleton that appears to get revived, and that is dope as heck. I can't wait to see what they do with him. Actually, what we know of this game's plot reminds me of Zelda 2 because it involves Ganon being revived after being defeated in the previous game, which actually makes sense because BOTW took heavy inspiration from Zelda 1. Also, there even being a Ganondorf skeleton makes me wonder if BOTW and this game are really in the Child timeline even though I was sure BOTW was in the Downfall timeline. The skeleton could be TP Ganondorf's skeleton, though I'm not sure if that works with Four Swords Adventures... In terms of when we can expect this game to get released, my current projection is Holiday 2020. That would give them about three years assuming they started soon after releasing BOTW's last DLC, which even with the huge scope of these games should be enough since they're working with the same engine. I wouldn't get my hopes up for it being earlier, and it very well could be later as much as I hope it isn't. However, it would work as the big holiday game of 2020 and that would be consistent with the rumors of there being a Zelda game for the Switch every year, so that's my guess for now. So yeah, as you can tell from this huge block of text, I'm really looking forward to "Breath of the Skeleton" as I'll call it until it gets a real name.

That's about it for me. Mario & Sonic actually looks pretty good, so I'll consider getting that. Other than that, there was a lot of stuff that I don't have much to say about. Overall, this was not a bad E3 Direct, and I think the rest of 2019 is looking fairly strong for Nintendo.

Good Nintendo Direct with games I am looking forward. Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 3, and... BOTW sequel!!! Man, I can't wait to see more of it! Just a little disappointed to see nothing from Monolith Soft, but I will not complain.

Luigi's Mansion was cool, but other than that there wasn't much of note for me until Banjo was revealed, that was hype.

lol at Mario Maker 2 only appearing in the sizzle reel. Not gonna lie, as one of the only things I knew existed that I was hyped for, was hoping for more info on that to fall back on when the new announcements were boring but eh. At least Banjo got some hype out of me. That'll be the reaction I post ;D

And we just got a Kirby spin off not too long ago as well with battle royal. Kirby is good to relax for a while.

i generally liked it... two newcomer announcements was wild i wasnt expecting that
luigis mansion 3 was the most hype for me though there wasnt much of anything else.... zelen expected pikmin info this e3 making her tonights biggest loser
however my friends were so happy over the direct that i think its fine. im glad for them too

Kazooie in Smash

Animal Crossing Switch

Now all that's left is Kazooie in Animal Crossing Switch.

i like the island thing for the animal crossing game, it looks like an expansion of the public works projects aspect where you build townstuff from the ground up. it's also a new direction of the series, and it gives more places to fish for sea creatures than the southern parts of the town

1. Battle Royale was a year and a half ago
2. It was unique and unlike any other Kirby game before it (even if it was just okay at best)

I still really don't see your point here.
