7:58 - they flash an image of an extremely zoomed in Guzma picture while a one second voice clip of *//ya BOI//* shouts in the distance

8:00 - this nintendo direct has concluded

I don't really care about 4th gen remake (I really don't think the 4th+ gens don't need remakes) and it's just way too soon for Pokemon Stars. I don't really know what to expect. I don't even know if I want anything.

Actually after a bit of thought let me take that back, I kind of hope for another remake of Gen 1 in Gen 7's style. I know that would be weird to have another remake but it would still look drastically different from firered/leafgreen, and I can sort of see it happen too with how Gamefreak has been catering to the original series again and again. I think it would be cool.

Oh also Pokemon Conquest 2 pls.

It happened, we've got Pokken Tournament DX for Switch, Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon for 3DS, and 2nd generation games on Virtual Console (Gold and Silver but not Crystal, apparently. Thoughts?

hmmm, having Silver/Gold on the VC is nice

Pokken Tournament Deluxe has Decidueye and the arcade characters, might buy it just for scizor. I wonder if because they have multiplayer without split-screen it means they have a mode that doesn't swap between field and duel phase. That'd be nice.

Kind of curious how different UltraSun/UltraMoon will actually be.

...so we're getting
  • a slightly updated port on the brand new system
  • two slightly improved games instead of a definitive sequel that combines the best parts of both of the first games (i.e. platinum to diamond/pearl)
  • two slightly improved games released on the old system, the main draw of which being the 3d feature nobody used ever
  • a ROM that takes months to release for some reason

bit disappointed tbh

at least gen 8 will be built from the ground up for the switch i guess

im really skeptical though, can they really milk the 'split version sequel where the third monster fuses with one of the other two monsters' con again?

they even said it was a retelling so heck it might not even be a direct sequel this time which means literally what will they add aside from another event item to get the thing on the box and new z-moves

I think they're solidifying the "a sequel for each version" approach that they used in gen 5 as the new standard rather than the gen 1-4 approach of "one sequel for both versions" which everyone expected with Pokemon Stars. They probably would have done the gen 5 approach for gen 6 if they hadn't wanted to hurry up and make gen 7 for the 20th anniversary.

Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum all added a ton of new features despite being the same story. I have faith there will be quality new content. This is essentially a third game just split in two.

And those games were all great in their execution but BW2 showed it was possible to make a sequel in the same gen that not only added new features but changed the story of the game dramatically. My gut feeling is that I don't think making an Emerald/Platinum style retelling with new features is enough to justify the split into two versions after BW2 but we'll see what actually changes once more info is released
